Summary: If you can get past the only-heterosexual couples (which was not the choice of the author), then this book is great. It has a lot of basic information and would be a great gift for a friend new to toys; however, there is also some information that I wasn't aware of, so it would be great for more experienced people as well. You really can't go wrong with this book.

- Tristan Taormino is overall just a fabulous author. Her writing style is conversational and she stays away from elevated language, so reading her is like having a chat with a friend rather than listening to a professor lecture.
I have her book The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women which also has her great style that keeps it casual, yet packed full of information. She ensures that people from all audiences will learn something, yet beginners and people slightly intimidated by the topics will not be scared off by certain rhetoric.
If you haven't read anything by Tristan, this is a great opportunity to do so and I would highly recommend it.

- This book is obviously written for those who have either no knowledge or just a very basic knowledge of sex toys. There is information on materials, different kinds of toys, how to incorporate toys into the bedroom and multiple other topics having to do with sex toys.
The information about the toys is interspersed with pictures of very heterosexual and thin couples using toys. I was initially put off by the lack of different body types and different kinds of couples, but I then learned that the publisher made the decision to include only heterosexual, thin couples, not Tristan. Therefore, I can't fault the author for that at all. Just be advised that there are mostly white, thin and heterosexual couples depicted in the book.
Some of the more awesome toys, like the Nobessence Romp and the Eroscillator, are pictured multiple times, but do not have much text devoted to them. The Eroscillator only has a small paragraph and the Romp is not ever mentioned by name in the text, however it is shown many times throughout the book.
The good thing is she has a large section of toy materials and which materials should always be covered with a condom when using due to chemicals. She also has sections in the back on safer sex and toy care, which are both very important. The materials sections is complete, but I would have liked to it have been a little longer since I think this is an important aspect of knowing about sex toys.
All of the major brands are present in the book: Fun Factory, Njoy, Vibratex, etc., so if you have a favorite brand that is well-known and makes higher quality toys (i.e. don't expect an entire section on Doc Johnson, etc.) it is sure to be included multiple times. The brand that I saw the most was Fun Factory.

- The layout of the book is probably the best part. There is a ton of information, but it doesn't overwhelm because of the addition of pictures throughout the book. The pictures are nicely done although, as mentioned before, are all thin, mostly white, heterosexual couples.
The book is hardcover and, as you can see, the cover design is really cute. It seems sturdy, so you won't have to worry about it falling apart if you lend it out to a few friends.

While I wouldn't recommend this for advanced users or someone looking for sex toy techniques, this is a great book to learn about the different types of sex toys, and it really puts the idea of using sex toys in a positive light. Added bonus: Lots of pretty pictures.

This is a fantastic book for anyone new to sex toys. All the information you need to get started is right here in a beautifully designed hardback. For those with some experience already, this is a handy resource to help you explore more options. For advanced adventurers, there may not be much in here you don't already know, but it's pretty and informative, so that makes it an ideal gift.

I love this book. It's loaded with information and pictures. I've learned a lot about sex toys from reading it. It's also very helpful because I'm planning on having a sex toy party. So this is full of information that'll help me with that. It's definitely worth the price and I'd suggest it for anyone interested in learning about it.

The Big Book of Sex Toys is the only manual needed if you want to know everything there is to know about adult toys. Tristan Taormino, the author, has an extensive background on all things sexual, and shares an incredible amount of information within the 247 pages of this book. It is recommended for anyone looking for more information on sex toys, lubricants, and the cleaning and care of adult products.

If you are a beginner to sex toys this could help you, as it does prime you on masturbation, anatomy and the types of sex toys that are out there. However, be prepared to read all about the author's favorite toys.

This book is worth it if you would like to know what else is out there in the world of toys besides your basic vibrator. It briefly covers everything you need to know to exploring with toys.

I was really thrilled I decided to purchase this book and do not regret it. I would suggest it to anyone just getting into toys or ones who wanted to brush up their knowledge on toys, where to find them, how to take care of them, and how to use them. It was a fun read for myself and was also fun to read with my boyfriend. If you are with someone who is not on the same level as you are about sex toys, I highly recommend purchasing the book and reading it together.

This book if full of information about sex toys! It's a fun and informative read for newcomers who are interested in learning a lot quickly and can be a lovely piece to have even if you're an experienced toy veteran. The book is full of pretty pictures--as long as you don't mind that the couples portrayed are only heterosexual and of a certain body type. Also keep in mind that the covers are not very discreet and neither is the inside of the book.
