Then you have someone who's afraid of the dark but enjoys sensory depravation. If the blindfold itself is causing a problem, use a lighter colored, light fabric blindfold that will let light through but still prohibit sight.

It is mostly sensory perception and the thought of being in control. While the dark is something completely unnatural to a human (who is used to light) a blindfold can be removed when afraid...thus still giving the wearer control

This is me. I'm not the biggest fan of the dark because I don't know at all what's there. Yes, it's a form of sensory deprivation, but if I'm blindfolded, I at least know my partner is there. Then it becomes something that's very comforting as I have to trust him. I hope that makes sense.

Actually, my girlfriend is in this situation. Because not all light can be blocked by most blindfolds, we keep the lights on (specifically a green ropelight that's my "cool" lighting fixture in my apartment) so she can SEE the light, and it's more like taking it mostly away from her, and her being completely in my control

I agree as someone else stated, try a light fabric blindfold or even a sheer scarf as a blindfold which will still let light through
