In “The Mistress Manual”, the author describes five different types of Dominant women. Each type of woman has their own style of domination. They are:
Nursemaid – Tends to tease and chastise her diapered partner
Governess – Tends to spank and discipline her partner who is a “student”.
Queen – Demands service and punishes her “sissy” partner
Amazon – Dominate and mocks her sex slave
Goddess – Demands worship of her female beauty

Dunno, I'm not really sure there's a need to categorize dominance like that. What's more, I'm not sure it's helpful. All of those sound like me, or at least speak to some of me. These kinds of dominance do not exist in their own separate worlds. One could bring any number of blended demeanors to bear on any number of scenes.

I agree, I don't see the categorization as helpful, and there are certainly more types than those five if it must be labeled. I'm a kind and generous Master to my beloved pet... Sometimes. And sometimes I'm a Dom to my sub, but I don't feel like I fit any of those archetypes. (But then, I'm not really much of a woman either.)

I'm a sub, but I feel like each of these speaks more to a specific kink, and that it's possible to be dominant without falling into one of these categories. It could be useful for someone who is looking for a way to classify their interests to find similar people, but I usually don't like statements that these ARE the categories that exist. Sex, sexuality, and the expressions thereof are complicated. And then you get BDSM that is entirely unsexual, and, yeah.

I'm a mixture of a few things, and then a sprinkling of some other "characters" not mentioned. Of the list, I'm primarily Nursemaid, following by Queen. There is definitely an element of Goddess for female partners, combined with a strong Nursemaid aspect. Very cool post!

Only 5 types of Dommes, really? I don't fit into any of those. I'm a service sadist, damnit! I want my own special label.

Flippant comments aside, I do think only having 5 types of dominant women is really limiting.
