Term for the mildly kinky?

Contributor: hyacinthgirl hyacinthgirl
I was talking to one of my sub friends the other day, asking her for some rope suggestions. She knows that I'm a dom and that I have a sub, but she was wondering if my beau was kinky. My beau likes mild bondage, spanking, biting/being bitten, exhibitionism, and holding a dominant position. I wouldn't classify him as vanilla, but he's also a lot less kinky than me.

We couldn't decide on a term we liked best for the somewhat kinky, but came down to "crimped" or "swirl" (half vanilla). Do you have a term for the less-than-kinky, more-than-vanilla?

I don't really have a term but if we're going with ice cream flavors I'd say maybe 'mocha','coffee', or 'caramel' might suffice since they're a step away from vanilla but not so far off that they're entirely different.

I have several terms. A while ago, I was musing that the terms 'vanilla' and 'kinky' were too restrictive, so I endeavoured to come up with some new terms. I expanded it to three. You have vanilla and kinky, then I included 'Neapolitan' - where a vanilla person sometimes dabbles in light BDSM play. Then I thought that, using these three alone, the terms themselves are faulty, and so I added two more.

The next being 'Saucy' - Saucy means to have an active and explorative sex life, with sex toys, many positions, even multiple partners, and dabblings – only dabblings – in the more risqué side of sex – meaning orgies, swinging parties, BDSM. I'd view the majority of people on here to Saucy.

The other is 'Spicy'. Spicy takes that dabbling further, and describes one who like more than a bit of swinging, orgies, fetish, and even BDSM, but is not a ‘true’ BDSMer.

So on a scale it would be: vanilla - neapolitan - saucy - spicy - kinky.

I would classify it by activity/active level (like fetlife lists them--"once in a while to spice things up," "just in the bedroom," etc). I like the verb "dabble," as well as the suggested "mocha" and "neapolitan"
