I prefer cuffs, but we're learning some rope-work. It depends on the scene, really, but the actual tying-up doesn't do much for me, it's what comes after that I want, so cuffs are preferable because they're quicker.
Spreader bars are a bit much for me since I have to have a bit of room to shift to be able to stay in bondage. Health issues mean that I have to be careful. Fortunately, I have a partner who understands and is patient and caring- he'd rather have a session that I can enjoy without severe discomfort and pain (of the not-fun kinds) than match a position exactly.
I like cuffs for quick-and-dirty and for longterm wear (especially outside), but play with rope about as often as the cuffs. We're looking at picking up some better rope next paycheck, and will probably use it more often then.
I'm not really into the more intricate stuff. They feel ... unnecessary. Ropes, chains, cuffs, restraints - the basics - work just as well as the more 'advanced' stuff.
I'm a fan of cuffs. I also like a little rope fun, but nothing super elaborate.
I'm hoping once we get a new bed with bars on the headboard, we can have more fun with that.
