A Toronto area artist called Teresa van Neste was responsible for the knitted penis in that pic. We had put out a (not very well heeded) call to artists for some erotic art to display in our little workshop here in Peterborough, Ontario, and the only response we got was from Teresa, a friend of a friend. Four rather delightful, hand dyed, hand felted, knitted penes, if that's a word. Unfortunately, they cost a bit too much for us to be able to sell them, but we have used them as displays at shows, and they do grab the attention; mostly, it has to be said, from the women. Some of our wholesale customers have ordered them as display items, and Teresa has been kind enough to crochet us up a whole bunch of less expensive acrylic specimens. Not quite as lovely as the originals, but still not something you see every day. Unless you work here...

All right. As you probably guessed, I'm an avid knitter. knitty.com just came out with an issue with a pattern for the knitted uterus right at the time when they found a solid growth on my ovary. As a form of therapy/distraction I knitted that womb and I added ovaries dangling from strings.

It turns out I had borderline ovarian cancer which is in the grey area between benign and malignant.

I think I remember a blog post about people knitting it to throw on courthouse steps to protest anti-abortion legislation.

So, is everything fine with you now?

Yes. Sudden harsh menopause is no fun, but I've had no recurrences. The reason I started buying sex toys is to combat the vaginal atrophy that can come with a big drop in estrogen.

I started a health kick that I've kept up. I eat well and lift serious weight. I consider myself to be quite healthy.
