I can push a ball gag right out of my mouth with my tongue. You can also scream around them fairly easily. They'll muffle sound a little but plain old panties shoved in the mouth work better.

I tried the Tantus Silicone Gag and while I couldn't talk with it in my mouth I could still scream fairly well.

I haven't tried using panties before - we've used pillows and such. That might indeed be fun .

I'm hoping to find a gag of some sort for light & noisy bdsm play.

Yeah, they do. There's a strip gag sold by A Woman's Touch that also works. You can't choke on it or aspirate the little ball. It's a safety thing - they won't sell a ball gag.

Well we tried the Silicone Ball Gag and we absolutely love it. Its true that it does not completely muffle the sound completely. But i feel it does the job rather nicely. However, if you want something which achieves something more than i guess panties or something along those lines shoved in the mouth will work better.

I think it also depends on the size of the ball... Very large ball gags work better than the smaller ones, also it depends on how far into your mouth it's strapped...

However, I agree with Carrie Ann, stuffing your mouth with underwear works best...especially followed by bondage-grade duct tape...

I have three ball gags, none of which kill of screams. Since the scream is more from the throat you can still hear it fairly well. Pillows, panties, and a hand clasped over the mouth will reduce noise. You can also try tape...but taking it off SUCKS.

If you can push a ball gag out, it isn't on tight enough. Also, I've noticed that bigger ball gags seem to muffle me a bit more than smaller ones.

I've used a lot of gags, and none of them have ever made me completely silent, although they do take the octives down a bit.

You can also try bondage tape. It's not sticky, but it stays on surprisingly well. You can even re-use it. ^^

To me it's not unlike playing with a safeword. Sure I could spit out the ball gag, and I could stop the caning or make my partner take off the nipple clamps, but what would be the fun in that?

That said it can be fun to play with gags you can't spit out too. Ball gags with a chin strap make it difficult to impossible to push out the gag because you can't open your jaw wide enough to get the ball out. It also makes them more muffling since it is harder to scream around them. Straps

I prefer a bit gag over a ball gag. I drool a lot more, but a bit stays in MUCH BETTER than a ball gag does.

Ok, I gotcha! I do understand that you may not want to use as tight as possible, but it seems like you should still be able to if that is what you want.

I have the Tantus Beginner Ball Gag. If M puts it on tight enough, I can only push it out of my mouth far enough to swallow, and even that's difficult. It pretty much immobilizes my tongue (completely immobilizes it if I leave my tongue ring in) and muffles sound nicely. But really, the purpose of a ball gag is to prevent speech more than sound.

If the ball gag is the right size (i.e. the mouth can't be opened much wider than the ball), then yes, it can be good at muffling the sound. However, if the ball is too small, there is little hope of stopping the sound from getting out.

I have the Fetish Fantasy Elite large open-mouth gag and it don't muffle the sound much. but i still like it lol

It helps a bit to muffle the sound, but you still would want to be a bit quieter. Part of it is the ability to bite down on the ball instead of crying out.

The gags that fit me comfortably make it so that I can't talk, or say anything understandable, but they don't prevent me from screaming, moaning, or making noises.
