Completely normal. It is obviously a niche. If I recall back I believe that around 10% of people enjoy/think of kinky sex and about 10% of those people (so 1% overall) actually act on it. I cannot remember the exact numbers, but I think it is something like that.
If you go on any kink friendly forums, website, etc. They will all tell you it is completely normal and perfectly healthy and I agree.
If you are playing consensually and safely there is nothing off limits in my opinion.

BDSM is completely normal. Almost everyone likes it to some degree. You want proof, just look at how repressed house wives gobbled up that horrible 50 shades book. Spanking is such a common kink it really shouldn't even be considered a kink anymore. When everyone likes it a little rough, who has the right to say liking it a little rougher is abnormal?
