Cat among the pigeons here... I would say, totally subjectively, the difference for me between leather and rubber (given there are many different types of both), is that leather has a natural warmth that rubber lacks. Rubber definitely creates a harsher sensation than leather, and I'm specifically thinking about flat sheet rubber, not the pink spaghettini stuff, but it also has a more impersonal feel, an indifference to the skin that I don't feel with leather, even pretty hard leathers. For example, rubber doesn't caress the skin like leather does - maybe because leather *is* skin, while rubber is extruded in vats in some hideous chemical alley. It seems to me that rubber creates a distance between the top and bottom, whereas leather is more connective, and depending on where and what you want to play, you would choose one or the other.

I'm into suede or softer skins like lambskin. Leather is okay, but it's usually made rough/scratchy. I prefer soft and sensual toys.

Depends on the type of rubber that is used for the flogger. I like floggers with thick rubber falls, not the thin circular falls. I use leather floggers but would love a thick rubber flogger in my toy bag as well.

leather. suede, whatever. I like thuddy (double ended tails!) and rubber is often too stingy for me. Still experimenting though, and I love the aesthetics of some floggers and would love to use or own them though wouldn't want them to be used on me.

Anything with rough, unfinished tails would hurt the most like the Hearts Leather Flogger. While the whip could hurt, it would only hurt because of lack of experience using it - most whips shouldn't "actually" be whipped on a human body for play.
