Community Events Committee Meeting: 12.02.2010

So, we're thinking about getting manufacturers on board, and doing some fundraising over the course of a month by allocating a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of a selected group of products - maybe every other month

BUT this won't be the typical "10% of proceeds go to squirrel foot syndrome" type of charitable giving...noooope nope nope

I just made a joke about the charity being 'Tuna for Tabbys'. Your avatar and name combination always makes me smile. I was also just doing a Barry White impersonation of the Tabby in the picture.

Will there still be a way for individuals to directly donate, under this plan? (I know it might not be fleshed out yet, but I'm just curious!

Here is where I need you guys to help brainstorm...

I think we could do it like this:

1. Members of the community that want to be a representative in their area find a charitable organization and do the research and contact needed. They tell us in a thread for this specific purpose. We have a handful of people who have organizations in their areas, and the community thinks these are good ideas (basically the community approves and I check it out).

2. We talk with manufacturers and match up companies months in advance. Doing a fundraiser every other month. The manufacturer agrees to donate up $1,000 (maybe $500 for some companies, depending on their ability). We figure out what products they will include with us on the promo. We do the planning and promote the whole thing.

maybe we could vote as a community on which charity to support each month? If people research a charity post about it and then members can decide which they would like to support and choose the charity that way..if that makes sense

This is working well for the Thanksgiving and Christmas families, I see no reason why it could not work for other stuff as well.

Great idea.

Would this be like... Each product sold will have a percentage of their sale price donated up to $1000/$500, or would it be a flat donation by whatever company, and then they're promoted that month?

3. Once we reach the goal, the money is sent in a check to the representative who will then go buy the fans for the Senior Center or the new bedding and bowls for the Animal Shelter. Then that Rep keeps us posted; takes pics and video, writes about the experience and shares it with us. We share it with the manufacturer. Everybody wins.
