Part of the problem is that there is SO much that you can't possibly give new members of the community all of the information at once. It would just overwhelm them.

I will say that as a fairly new personal store "owner"? that I wish we had a once a month meeting for that - to answer questions - share about how stores can have coupons, etc.

I've gotten at least two requests from folks asking me to help them figure out how to do a store or how to do coupons.

If we ever decide to do a meeting for the store owners - I'll be glad to help or even host it!

Oh! Here's something else!

The little "areas of expertise"---most people fill that up with "I review dildos" or "I review vibrators."

But I think if we changed what they called that---instead of "area to expertise" to "class style", and had all the mentors update their blurbs, it would make things a lot easier for students.

Since they truncate so fast, right now mine just says "My class is run without form letters" because that was the shortest way I could think of to say "I'm here to read what you write, and ask you questions to get you thinking about what else you can add, how you can turn it into a story, and what detail is important---but not changing your voice at all, and you have all the final say" in 8 words.

But I think if mentors were a little more specific about how they run their classes in that little personal statement box, and maybe if it didn't truncate so soon, prospective students could pick a fitting mentor more easily.

That does make a good point - that it would be good to see. I know my first mentor didn't work out so well - and that was discouraging.

You'd have to have certain categories "speed of getting back to student", etc. etc.
I am not that quick at getting back, I know, I suck, lol. But my reasoning is that I want to make sure that I have the time to devote to giving the review a thorough look over, because otherwise I'm wasting both of our times.

I'm open to anything if the information is helpful. The potential problem is that the higher the minimum, the longer it takes for the information to ever become public. New mentors can really struggle with getting students.

I also wish we had the members' general locations in there. For instance my first reviewer was in NZ or Australia - I forget which. Had problems with time because I'd submit it to her and be waiting a while for her to get back on - but partly due to the time difference between Texas and her.

Even just "East Coast" or whatever would've helped.

Again, this is an area where a tutorial or FAQ page would be helpful.

Amen to that.

The last two months I've had my maximum of students, but I was a mentor for two months before I got my first one :/

When mentors come to me for advice, I tell'em to take on an advanced student for their first one or two so they can get their little mentor badge up, and also to hone their mentoring skills a little.

Time zones shouldn't really be an issue unless you're looking for a response within 24 hours. Personally, I now tell students that it may take me up to a week to comment on a review although often it will be sooner.

I had no idea who she was before he mentioned her at the meeting, but I think she's just great. I love her tattoos and I love how adorable she is.

I love taking advanced reviewers. They typically really want to improve themselves and aren't simply looking to get free toys.

I don't want to be demanding, but did y'all see this post? Any thoughts? I know I was wishing the blurbs were different when I was looking for my first mentor (although Splendwhore and I turned out to be a good match):

Oh I know, no worries

I do feel bad when I don't get back to a student within a few days, but sometimes I just can't help it.

I'll be your first student, if you like. I've even got a couple reviews I've been plunking away at today

Thanks - I'm having a blast. I actually have another four or five here to do - Sam has one to go over before graduating me and I just ordered a bunch of items today.

Since a number of the items I've ordered are hand lotions/body gels, etc. - I am already getting started on the reviews with the product information.

Being in the descriptive review program helps - I think I've had four items from them already and three more are on their way now.

What if rather than any kind of scoring/rating, we simply ask students to provide comments such as "Based on your experience, what are your mentor's strengths? Weaknesses?" And then publish the comments under "positive" and "negative" categories. It might provide prospective students a better feel for mentors than a rating. Plus, it would make it harder for mentors to figure out who said what.

I can ask Emma about it, since she does Porn Club. Although maybe for the next forum party we can ask them if they'd like to go, lol.

Do you have to do anything special to get into the descriptive review program? Also do we have mentors that focus on the descriptive review program?
