Woah, you can OD on ginger? Crazy! ( here I am, but late, ack >_< )

When the fish had been steaming about 10 minutes, I poured several tablespoons of peanut oil into a small pot and let it begin to heat up.

When the fish is finished cooking, you want the oil to be very hot but not smoking. If you get there too early, turn it down.

Trivia: Jamaican ginger was the first oriental spice to be grown in the New World and imported back to Europe (beginning in 1585).

Take the lid off your fish and take a look at it!

If it is ready, place it in its serving bowl.

Cover it with your green onions.

Pour the hot peanut oil over it, instantly cooking the scallions and pouring all of their flavor into the fish.

Can you use any other oil, or is peanut oil the thing? My older sister is allergic...

Any other oil will be fine, as long as it has a high smoke point. (Use canola or corn oil, not butter). Peanut is a little tastier, but anythign else will do.

I'm not too worried. I'd have to eat... well, a LOT of ginger to OD on it, and I wouldn't eat so much. Haha.

It didn't sound like you'd die... and 5 ounces is a LOT of ginger. Just don't eat a whole root in a day

Place your fish in its serving bowl at the center of the table, with each of your guests ready to accept a portion and dip their bites into their dipping sauces. Stir-fried bok choy makes a great side dish, and so would broccoli or anything else green.

(And then my camera died, which turned out to be a good thing---at least there's one nice picture!) ]

Trivia: The world's top producers of ginger today are (in order) India, China, Indonesia, Nepal, and Thailand.

And all that was left of our fish at the end of the meal:

The pictures for this meeting are hosted at link and link .

Do you see any potential stumbling blocks right off, or do you think you could make this tomorrow?

"Sorry honey, girls' night out, I need some fish!"

What other foods do you enjoy steamed?

How is cooking them different from steaming fish?

Sweet! I'm glad to hear it.

And go pick one up. This was the tastiest meal I've had all month, I think.

I like making those BBQ Pork buns in the steamer when I'm not making tamales.

I've actually tried steamed dumplings before - they were pretty good. All I did was pop them in a steamer for 10-20 minutes after mincing the filling and it was golden, so there wasn't any extra oils or anything to add.
