So I see some excitement over the inclusion of cocktails, is this something you all are quite interested in for future events?

Oh yes, I really love mixing my own drinks. Though...sometimes its on the fly so I never write down what was in them save for a few that have been hits.

Iiiiiii have totally become kind of a cocktail nerd over the last few months, yeah...

But in other news, 30 minutes til the meeting, and just about 10 or so til we start getting the party started

Hello everyone! You're excited for the Gingerbread Extravaganza, right?

So, as everyone trickles in, have you ever made a gingerbread house before?

Sadly, though I'm running the contest, I have never actually made one myself.

Well there's no time like the present to start, right? I actually hadn't until last year's gingerbread contest... and the recipe I've been using this month is *way* better than the one I used last year.

Hi everyone, it’s my first meeting.
We made them a couple times when I was a kid. I remember it taking a few tries to get the walls to stay up while we were putting them together. I don’t know if my parent’s architectural skill were lacking, or if it was the six little hands trying to help. Either way it was fun.

I've made gingerbread houses, but only the pre-packaged kind.

Glad you made it to a meeting, welcome!

This will be plenty of fun too---I know now that if you want to make a very simple house, just make an "A-frame", with two slabs that make an A, and then one triangle for the front and one triangle for the back. Even six hands can do it!

It's a good time to try a homemade one, don't you think ?

I did. Last year there was a contest. I tied for third. That was around Christmas on Eden. It wasn't a very good house, but I still did it.

I used to just make them out of graham crackers (like we did in school) when I was younger, but I started making real gingerbread last year. It makes your house smell so good, there's no comparison at all!

I never really knew about the prepackaged ones, do they still make your house smell good?

Not at all! And they're a pain in the butt to assemble. I'm excited to try to make a homemade one.

But speaking of lovely smells, I just made two loaves of Snickerdoodle bread and my house smells lovely.

All right, it's 8EST, so welcome officially to the December meeting of Eden Cooks! We're obviously featuring gingerbread, which can be made many different ways, from a moist cake to something that's more a building material than a food. The recipe I will be sharing is sturdy enough to be structural, but it still smells and tastes wonderful, so it's a pretty good split down the middle. Ytou can build a house that will stand up two weeks... but you can still eat the scraps

Since gingerbread dough needs to chill for a while, I made some Lemon Zest Sandwich Cookies and a sidecar at the same time. So you get three recipes in one this month, and all using the same delicious citrus.

Be sure to stick around til the end, because there will be five $10 EF gift cards given out to participants!

Before refrigeration, citrus fruits were only available to the northern part of the United States during December. So lots of holiday recipes feature citrus really strongly---they were the delicacy of the month!

I do have one, but we haven't refilled it with oil since we moved. I just pan fried about 15 of them. Wanna see some food porn?
