I really disliked that as well. I have never met an Asian who looked or talked like that. I reminded myself several times of when the movie was made.

I also felt very uncomfortable with the way the men talked with her. "I bought you dinner. I gave you money. Doesn't that get me anything?"

*shudder*

I watched the trailer just now, are you talking about the Mickey Rooney character? Did they have him playing an Asian man?

They hypocrisy in her character was interesting, but I kind of admired the progressive mentality that she was unattached and okay with the casual nature of her relationships. I didn't like that she was such a gold digger though, but I understand why she was.

Yep. It wasn't hard to understand why she didn't want to be tied down.

Can we get some detail of what his stereotype was, (I haven't seen this)?

If you go into remembering that it's the 60s and it's meant to be comedic, it's a little easier to take it.

It's definitely a caricature, because they show other, elegant, beautiful, not stereotyped Asians in the party scene.

Chinese

Big teeth, thick accent, couldn't see without thick glasses, typical rascist take on Chinamen

So, one of my (teenage) sister's best friends recently watched and fell in love with this movie, and asked for posters/etc of it for winter gifts. My sister got her a poster... and I was shocked to see that (in the classic pose that even I know, having not seen the movie) her cigarette and cigarette holder were photoshopped out!

Any thoughts on that? Did they try to add political correctness to the movie that's on Netflix now too, or is it intact?

It was my first time watching it, but I would say that they kept it intact. Complete with passing out drunkeness, a trip to a strip bar, cigarettes, drinks, sexism, and racism.

It's really interesting to see how far we've come as a society over several decades.
