30 Day Shred

Contributor: Lildrummrgurl7 Lildrummrgurl7
I finally got around to doing day 1 today. I didn't realize how out I shape I was. Last summer I used to do 2 levels back to back and then spend an hour jogging and had no problem. Today I struggled through level one. I've got some room for improvement but I'm excited to get my fitness back

Fantastic news both of you!

Write the journal entry.... It helps! It also shows other people who might be interested some variations that people do. I like the toe taps myself, and squeeze the bum as hard as I can while swinging my arms just like a jumping jack. My thighs thank me for that.

I took yesterday off from exercising... But today we did yoga this morning and in a few minutes we'll be doing the shred and some more yoga. My calves are not looking forward to more yoga! But the shred seems to be getting a little easier to work through!

Day three level one was down yesterday...

Felt great!!! I need to push myself harder as this morning I am not stiff or achy at all. Day four this afternoon.

Great to hear how people are finding this!!! Have any of you noticed any difference in your sleeping pattern? Or appetite? I find I am wicked tired and I seem to sleep deeper and wake happier than I used to. Which is saying a lot as I am usually a deep sleeper and wake bright eyed and bushy tailed. It is so much more now!

Ohhhh..... My students and I do the shred first, then do intense yoga afterwards. Even my students have seen an improvement in their flexibility doing the shred first with little to no aches the next day. If you are interested, Juillian Micheals does a weight loss yoga thingie and that is on YouTube as well. We just do our own yoga in class afterwards so. Do about eighty minutes of exercising.

Looking forward to hearing about your results Fuchsia!!!!

Day 1 Complete - Sucks that I only have time at bedtime but at least I know I will be sleeping well. The lunges with the arms and weights were going to be the death of me but glad I got started. Thank you Woman China for starting this. I think I am going to be at level 1 for quite a while.

Day four... Level one.

Legs stopped hurting... Shoulders stopped hurting. But golly do I feel amazing after doing it!!!!

My students and I are encouraging each other to do the exercise... It is funny to have them out of breath trying to huff and puff yelling at me in Chinglish to jump higher. We decided to stay at level one for two weeks so our bodies can really work at it and get our legs and shoulders into it.

I have to start studying how to explain how to do some of the moves in level two!!! Now that is going to be hilarious!!!

Great to hear how you all are enjoying it!!!!

I have not done that video in a LONG time! I may have to pull it out and try it again. I tend to get really bored with work out videos and can only do them a couple of times before I don't want to see it again, but maybe it's been long enough that I could try this one again.

Day 3 was yesterday, and I forgot to post, so I'm going to talk about it now. I haven't noticed any changes in my sleeping patterns or appetite (though I am working on that as well, because I am often a constant snacker and it's really unhealthy). I did, however, find the exercises easier to do at first. This, of course, let to me following Natalie in the beginning, and by the time I was half way through, I was definitely regretting that. I still don't like lunges and squats very much at all - they just feel awkward to me - but at least I can tell when I'm getting close to the end, haha.

Because of my knees, I can't get up from the floor as quickly as they can, which is pretty irritating sometimes, but I finally gave up on trying and just start in a beat late. I'm not unhappy with how things are going, by any means, but I'm still not really enjoying it yet.

So today was my first day. It actually seemed pretty easy. I must be a little more fit from work cause other Jillian Michaels programs kick my ass.

Day five... Level one

Dear Juillian Michaels;

Today I swore at you like a trucker. There was nothing nice being said about you and your orders telling me to get down, get up, work it.... I swore, and cussed and thought very negative nancy thoughts in your general direction.

But then.... I realised that I did all the push ups without needing to stop- girlie push ups (not pull ups, I am big girl you know)- when two weeks ago I couldn't even do one. I discovered after you said we could stop that I am indeed stronger than I was. I was able to do almost the whole routine without stopping. I missed out on two of those squat thingies with the bicep curl on both legs where last week I had to stop mid way through.

I will still continue to yell and cuss and sass you when I press play....

Sincerely;
The Woman in China

Congrats Woman China on making it through all of your push ups! I'm still kind of wimping out and half-assing it about half way through the second set, even though I'm doing girlie pushups too. Starting off with pushups/squat & press right after jumping jacks really kicks my arms' butts.

Day four wasn't very good for me, because I just plain didn't feel like working out yesterday. I put off my workout until the wee hours of the morning, and then, of course, my knee was terrible because I'd been on it all day - I was getting knee pain every time I did something requiring me to bend, and even though I wrapped it, I wound up stopping just over half way through. And of course, because I'd left it to the very last minute, I couldn't just ice and come back to try again an hour later. I'm really hoping that today goes better!

I did day 4 today and between the workout and the sweeping/mopping/vacuu ming I did today, my knees hurt so bad I can't walk. We'll have to see if I can handle day 5. If not, it'll be a gentle yoga day for me.

So, Day 5 went much better than Day 4, though I am still kind of hating/half-assing pushups. Everything else is going pretty well - some things are rather easy now (mostly the ones that were easy enough in the beginning - nothing that I found hard has magically become easier), but there are still enough that are difficult that I'm thinking I may take a few extra days on level one. I've actually been doing full blown jumping jacks, and they haven't been noticeably hard on my knees at all so far - it's all the bending that causes problems for me.

What I don't like is breathing the way that Jillian tells me to, but Woman China says that it's important, so I guess that I'm going to be trying to pay more attention to it. I usually forget about it about 15 seconds after she brings it up, and then try to correct it as soon as she mentions it again, ha.

I personally think she forces breathing a little too fast. I breathe much slower than she tries to prompt me to.

I also hate how she spends so little time stretching and doesn't emphasize how important water consumption is during/after a workout.

Breathe at your own pace AS LONG as you breathe properly. My advice is to watch the video while she is doing it to really make sure you see where she breathes.. For example, when you come up on the crunch, breath out. A you come down breath in. That is the important part. Breath at your own pace, just remember to breathe when you go into a pose/lunge.

Another thing to be aware of is your knees. It is so very important to make sure your knees are not hanging over your toes. If you don't have a mirror like many of us, wait till it is dark, turn on a room light and stand in front of a window like a sliding door or a low window to see how you do each pose.

Day six... Level one.

My knees are giving me some grief and I've been finding it a wee bit difficult to sit down and stand up. So I made a promise. No jumping and no yoga poses on my knees for two weeks.

Do you hav easy idea how hard it is not to do anything on your knees in yoga????

We did day six today and my students thought it was hilarious that I am there punching for the entire cardio portion. Day seven tomorrow!!!!nnext week we are doing level 1.5 where we take some level two exercises and bring them into level 1.

Day 7 level one.... done.

My arms/shoulders are feeling it more today as I am using them more especially when it comes to the push-up stuff due to my knees. Still no jumping, but doing the punching thingie for the cardio part and you have to try to move so much faster to try to get the heart rate up there!!!

How is everyone else doing?

Unfortunately, my knees are still killing me. I'll have to do yoga again tonight and wait to see if I can continue the 30DS tomorrow. Hey, working out 4 days a week isn't bad It's better than nothing.

Day 8 level one... done.

My students have enjoyed the past eight sessions of this routine and have asked to continue till next week and see how they are feeling.

I am still just doing the punching no jumping yet for me!!!

The newest students to the class, feel a bit achey as they pushed themselves to do what everyone else was doing. But the regular students have found it to be a fun and pleasurable activity.

However; actually getting in the mood to exercise and not sit about and chat is the hard part!!!

After three days of rest, I finally got around to doing day 5 today. I had to take it easy with the lunges and the squats but I did it! My knees and hips are snapping, crackling, and popping like a Barbie doll's knee joints. I wish most exercise didn't have to be so rough on my body.
