Sugars and carbs. He has been on the treadmill everyday. He is 13 but 6' and about 265. I am bringing it inside this weekend so he can excercise by the tv for motivation.

No problem. I'm glad to be of help.

Concentrated fruit juices are good to add to water too. We had a bottle of black-current for the longest time when we lived in Florida to cover for the crappy tasting water.

when we first married it was the opposite, he was over 300lbs and I was the smaller one, then I had my son and my fibro started, the meds for PPD made me gain weight and so do the pain killers and pain dictating my activity level.

I hate to be the voice of doom, but be very careful with low-calorie flavor packs. Just like diet soda, the sugar substitute contained in them can trigger the same insulin response as sugar or high fructose corn syrup. They're good for once in awhile, but I wouldn't use them every day.

Sweet potatoes and squash are pretty good things to add sweetness to dishes without adding sugars and carbs. I often bake sweet potato fries for a side at dinner, and the kids love them because they are so sweet.

Ugh will have to do some research on that I guess, we use lemon as well, just to kick up the taste. I have a lemon tree so that makes iteasy as far as getting fresh ones.

If he is just pre-diabetic, you don't really have to use diabetic friendly recipes. You can, but you don;t have to. Mainly, he needs to lose the weight, so basically exercise and eat healthy.

Yeah he likes sweet potatoes and putting cinnamon on them is supposed to be good. It is supposed to help your body break down the natural sugars faster.

There are also a few things that Eden is trying to get up and running that we club managers have been discussing for a while now. We are going to put together an Eden Date Night! The premise? We will give volunteers a chance to go on a date doing activities and eating foods that the clubs pick out based on your preferences. We are looking for volunteers if anyone is interested in participating. There's a lot more to it than just that, but we need to get some more of our kinks (pun may or may not be intended) worked out!

So? Anyone willing to guinea pig for this?

my husband is diabetic and uses lemon in all his water etc to give it more taste so he doesn't notice the sugar difference

Hes never been very active, kind of a homebody and shy. Thats why I am going to bring it into the main house. So that he can have it right by when he wants to do it....and praise everything that he does on it.

Sweet potatoes are really high in sugar, so I would still be careful with them, depending on how much you are trying to restrict sugar intake.

Like I said in another post, try concentrated fruit juices as well. It adds variety and there are plenty out there that are 100% juice.

I will talk to the Mr when he gets home (Friday) about it. Its easier to talk to him about food when we are face to face than on the phone.
