I'd like a double cheeseburger, super sized fries and a diet coke! How many of you do this? (private polling!)

I cant drink diet anything. If I'm treating myself to fast food might as well have a Pepsi with it. Unless I go to A&W and get one of those frozen lemonades, oh, I love those things

Debbie Downer alert!

The very last thing diet soda is, is good for you/healthy/better than regular soda. The artificial sweeteners are a major concern and something that scientists are evaluating to be causes of cancer and other issues.

You know, when it comes to how soda, diet or otherwise, affects your diet, I really appreciate the studies, but cutting those things out just doesn't fit with my lifestyle right now. I mean, there are worse vices to have, and I'm sure at some point I'll adjust this one. But for now, I'm okay with drinking soda.

I'm a reasonably healthy eater, and I'm very active with weight-training and martial arts. I feel like I do those things so that I can really enjoy what I cook and what I eat. I don't have to be a calorie hound if I want to cook something really interesting. But, it's a tit for tat thing. It just means that I have to make sure my body can handle burning the extra calories, and exercise does that.

I admit it, I like soda. Plain water is great when I need it, and I won't turn my nose up at it, but it tends to give me heartburn. I get the little crystal light packs because it helps kill the heartburn, makes me drink more water than soda, and I still feel like I'm getting a sweet treat out of the deal.

What can I say? I have at least a little bit of the Superman complex in my twenties.

If I'm going to order a soda, it's going to be diet. It has nothing to do with trying to be healthy, though. Full sugar sodas tend to play havoc with my digestive system, and I'll spend all evening in the bathroom if I drink one...

I eat fast food so rarely (maybe once every 3-4 months) so when I do, I go crazy. It's enough to make me sick of it for another quarter of the year!

I don't often eat fast food, but when I do, I eat what I want. So if I feel like having a double cheese burger, fruit, and a coke I get it. Or, if I want a jr. cheeseburger with super-sized fries and a water I get it. I get what I want, to hell with the calorie count

I like sharing onion rings with my husband too, but I only like the ones that are not heavily battered. I'm a big eater but I'm not crazy about burgers, fries and sodas, that's why I only have small portions of them. If I'm eating other foods, I can eat a lot!

We really like Burger King's onion rings, because (at least the one here) isn't too heavily battered, but just enough so that it has that nice, thick crispness to it

Yeah, Burger King's rings are pretty good, and they're better than Carl's Jr's (used to be the other way around).

I agree! I think they changed the seasoning in their onion rings or SOMETHING because lately, they've been sooooo good!

I hardly ever eat out, so when I do I order whatever I'm in the mood for and don't worry about how healthy it is.

Diet soda has the worst chemicals in it. I'd much rather have natural sugar in my sodas the rare times I do drink it. I think of it this way, you can eat anything and not worry about putting on weight, so long as you consume less of it. Like eating half of the hamburger instead.

I'm too much of a foodie to not enjoy the pleasure of sugar and fat etc. I wouldn't order sides to make myself feel better.

I can't really stand the taste of diet soda, and love the "real" stuff too much to give it up. That said, if I think I may have had too much soda prior to eating out I'll sometimes order a sweet tea, as long as it isn't flavored with anything.

I rarely eat fast food, but when I do, it's usually a hamburger, fries, and a salad. I'm not sure I'm capable of eating super size fries, though - I have a weak stomach!

I usually get fries and regular coke. I don't like burgers, so chicken nuggets instead if I feel like something more. I don't really eat much.

Diet soda tastes gross in my opinion. If I wanted to be healthy I'd drink water or juice, not that stuff... yuck.

I wasn't aware of this controversy over artificial sweeteners... interesting. Thanks everyone!

Sugar is not the (only) issue. The bun your burger comes on or the side of fries you have with it can cause just as large an insulin response as a large Coke or Pepsi would.
