Here they are - the 2012 EdenFantasys wall calendar monthly photo themes!

Contributor: Vaccinium Vaccinium
It's been settled. Below are the 12 themes for the 2012 wall calendar that the Eden Photographers Club is putting together for EdenFantasys about and for the EdenFantasys community. The tentative plan is for all the photos to be included in the calendar but the best one for each theme (month) will be featured. That plan may change if the number of submissions gets to be overwhelming, but that is the plan right now. You need not be a regularly contributing member of the Eden Photography Club to participate - this is open to every single person who cares to submit photos. If you want to see your photos in the calendar, send them to me at vaccineum [at] yahoo [dot] com.

Here are the ground rules. First, this is to be a mainstream calendar (i.e., one that most anyone wouldn't be afraid to hang on their wall of fridge for the whole world to see). So, no nudity, shots of anatomically correct sex toys, illegal items or activities, etc. Second, take care to make your photos look as good as possible. By no means am I expecting professional photos, but please try and put some effort into having them be as creative and attractive photos as possible. This is being put together by Eden Photographers, after all. Third, submissions will be taken through the end of September, at which point the EdenFantasys community will vote on all the photos for each theme/month to choose the one that will be featured for each month. Fourth, all photos must be in landscape orientation. In other words, they must be wider than they are tall.

With that, here are the themes (in no particular order):

Vehicles
It can be whatever you drive, but need not be a full shot of said vehicle. A closeup of a particular portion of the vehicle would work too.

Jewelry
You can be wearing them or not wearing them (no jewelry on your naughty bits, please), they can be funky or classic... whatever jewelry suits you.

Body art
This one was the most popular of the theme ideas. Again, be careful with what body parts you include in the photos.

Pets
Pretty self-explanatory: your pets.

Holiday spirit
This one is probably the only one that has a month already picked out for it: December. Regardless of what religion (or lack thereof) you may be, the end of the year is generally a festive month, so dig out your holiday swag and show us your spirit!

Hobbies
Whatever your hobby might be, show us what you do to enjoy yourself in your leisure time.

Being green
The EdenFantasys community is pretty environmentally friendly (green), so show us how you are green. This theme probably will require the most creativity, so give it a lot of thought.

Travel/vacation
Where do you vacation? Do you have any great photos from past vacations? Do you have an upcoming vacation planned? Show us what adventures you've been on!

Body parts
Obviously, there are certain body parts that are unsuitable for this calendar, but there are plenty of ways to get around that and make your photos beautiful, sexy, yet mainstream.

Healthy living
Healthy living, like being green, is very important to a lot of people here, so show us how you stay healthy.

Summer
Ideally, we'd have each of the seasons as a theme, but since the period for photo submissions occurs during August and September, summer is the best the vast majority of us can do. So, show us what summer means to you!

Where you live
Obviously we don't need the specific town to be obvious in your photo, but when you think of where you live, what comes to mind? What best represents that place you call home?

What rights does EF claim for all of the photos that are submitted?

Oh, fantastic. I haven't been able to keep up with the photo club, to my great sadness. (I have some health problems and need to carefully choose what I can deal with certain times.) But, I do love photography.

I have a couple of great holiday photos already. How fun.

Good question. I'll get back to you on that.

OK, DS, here it is:

First off, there will be be no legally binding contract, and the agreement would simply be the rights to use any photos submitted for print and use in the calendar.

I don't know the correct legalese to use, but basically the submitted photos will be for the calendar and only the calendar from EF's end. In other words, they will not be reused by EF in any way, shape, or form aside from the calendar. That also means you are free to use any photo for any other use in the future. In fact, this is Eden Photographers' baby, and EF is pretty much out of the loop aside from paying for it. I don't plan on keeping the photos after the calendar is done.

All I plan on doing with the photos is to resize them for the calendar. If there is a submitted photo that is unsharp (excluding those that are purposefully soft for artistic reasons), I may sharpen it, but other than that, I'm hoping that will be it for the editing from my end. I REALLY don't want to mess with anyone's composition by cropping photos to fit the calendar, and will go through great pains to decrease that possibility.

About the only thing I ask is that anyone who submits photos not publicize them before I put them up for a vote. I'd like for this to have as much impact as possible, and splashing the image all around EF, FB, or blogs would limit that impact.

If you, or anyone else, has questions about this topic I didn't address, please let me know and I'll do my best to address it.

Yeah. I submitted everything that we talked about in that meeting, but the powers-that-be wanted a community-oriented calendar, and you've got to go with the guy who pays the bills.

I suppose that if it meets the specs of each monthly theme, that would be acceptable. The calendar is about the community, and if the imagery describes you in the context of one or more of he themes, that would work.

Make sure he understands the photo rights that I posted a few posts above yours. It's nothing particularly strict, but anyone who took photos that are to be submitted for the calendar needs to be aware of it.

I had the one picture holding the Amethyst that's on the Arts and Crafts Club tumblr. I love that one! Would it work for something like this?

As great a photo as that is, the photos in the calendar need to be mainstream, and that photo would definitely outside the mainstream. Think the type of photos your parents wouldn't mind seeing hanging on their refrigerator.

If someone has a great portrait orientation picture, couldn't the layout be done in such a way that the "blank" spaces on either side of the picture could include smaller pictures that were also submitted for that month's theme? That way more people's pictures could be included.

Also, if someone has an extremely wide but short picture, other smaller pictures could be put underneath the really wide picture. That would allow pictures that don't have the standard landscape dimensions to be featured as the main picture, and it would include more pictures.

Of course, it would make the job of whoever is creating the layout of the calendar a little more difficult, but I, for one, would be willing to take on the extra work in order to make the calendar more inclusive. And yes, I am volunteering to help with the layout if you would like me to.

Given that I have no idea how many photos will be submitted, it is impossible to say whether there might be enough photos to fill up the blank areas on the sides of a portrait photo. So, unfortunately, I think we need to stick with landscape orientation. That messes up some of the photos I planned on submitting, so it's frustrating for me too.

As for your offer to help, that is greatly appreciated, but we already have someone helping with the layout of the calendar. If that changes, I'll absolutely contact you about it.
