Tips for a New Sex Blogger?

Contributor: aliceinthehole aliceinthehole
hey all - i'm looking to start up a sex blog, mainly focusing on toys and polyamory - anyone have any tips for a newbie?

i really am so amateur and don't know any more than this looks like a ton of fun, and maybe a way to make some $ or get some free toys!

anything from tips on what site to host my blog on, what companies to hit up for freebies, how to hit up a company for freebies (i know EF just closed their blogging program), any kind of advice you have at all is gladly accepted!

thanks a ton!

I've blogged for years and having any blog takes time and patience. Write about what you care for, not just for a 'freebie' and you'll get followers. The higher your number of followers and interaction, the better your chance of having to review things. Good luck

Oh and for hitting up companies, send them emails to their PR dept. for them to check you out.

Wordpress or Blogger are both fine to host your blog on. You can also get your own domain -- that may help in the longer run since it really gives your blog a brand.

But yeah, I agree with deltalima. It takes patience. Also, try to increase exposure of your website by posting on other people's websites, etc.

I've used both as well as Tumblr. Each has their own pros and cons. I felt that Blogger is a bit easier customizing I'd suggest seeing what your favorite (sex) bloggers have in common and integrate it.

Good point about getting a domain instead of being hosted nanamondoute

If you plan on being in it for the long haul, host your own domain from the start. The switch over from Wordpress (free) or Blogger to self hosted is a bit of a pain. Plus companies take you more seriously if you're alicessite.com instead of wordpress.com/alicessi te. I use self hosted Wordpress on Host Gator.

If you're looking for companies to review for, Kayla has a good resource on her website here of sites that accept reviewers.

Make sure you blog about what you like and your opinions. A lot of people get in the trap of only posting positive things about crappy toys or talking up the wrong people. You don't need to do that to have a good blog. Be honest and the followers and freebies will come. It may take more time, but you'll end up more valued that way. Blogging takes time and patience.

Also, get really familiar with Google Analytics, SEO, and other ways for people to find you and for you to track hits to your site. Then you'll be able to see which posts garner the most hits. Some companies will only talk to you if you have a certain Alexa rating. You can find out about that here.

Good luck! I can't wait to see your blog!
