Yeah, and it feels weird to be judged when I'm biking by choice, not because of DUIs or anything.

Yeah, I'll admit, I don't like that part. There's parts of downtown Decatur that are walkable, though. I'm also near a MARTA station (Atlanta's transit authority), but you don't want to go there alone.

I'm extremely shy and very vulnerable (I've been molested before), so I don't feel very comfortable in cities.

Ok in 'Under The Milky Way' I culd so relate to the desire to travel to a country justbecause you just want to with all your soul. I kope you manage it and look forward to reading all about what happens! You must share...I've left part of my heart there in Oz as well...

Neat to see others here from New England - I grew up in Conn. and hubby is from Maine and we lived there when we were first married (pre Air Force).

i havent read that yet! must go do so...

i recently self-published a book including some poetry i wrote in my year in italy followed by a couple months in spain.

today i woke from a dream, one of many dreams where i'm speaking italian, and for the 100th time since i've been back in america (its been over a yr now) i thought 'I HAVE TO GET OUT AGAIN"

i must travel.

started making plans today. i think i'm leaving in january. not sure where i'll go exactly. italy has been discovered, spain has been discovered to be dangerous and i'll NEVER go there again... who knows. the world has yet to be seen and i'ma go see it. i've never been happier than when i was out on my own discovering and challenging myself every day.

I will also second K's inner conscience and say you will miss so many things and so many lives will be darker if you do take that final step. If I had succeeded in my suicide attempts...well I'll just leave it at that.

After struggling with clinical depression for years (from the age of 12 I think now that I look back) - I so "got" K's piece. I wish I'd been strong enough to talk to myself that way.

I really enjoyed it - well - not enjoyed it. But it really touched me and made me glad that I stuck around!

My first memory of depression is looking at a pill bottle around the age of 10 or 12 or something and wondering if there were enough pills in there to let me die. I want to say it was Tylenol or something like that.

But I was too scared that I wouldn't die and then I'd have to face my mother and explain....

I can't remember when I wasn't trying to die growing up...I would go though periods where I did really crazy things and then just periods where I was on auto pilot. I didn't have a very happy childhood...BUT I have an amazing adutood and I have given my children the best of what I needed growing up. I am glad I never succeeded.

Depression since age 10 myself, though it's gotten much worse since I was 16. Attempted suicide three times, and obviously I've failed.

I was crying when I was writing that. I've had a very bad month (ID stolen, family almost getting foreclosed, mental hospital billing the shit out of my parents, etc.) and it's just so tempting to end it all lately. But I think of what I wrote every time I think about it and try to live one day at a time.
