I enjoyed both books thoroughly and wrote Pam several years ago when she asked for readers opinions on the endings....Pam uses Carrie's sense of irony to help us understand just how much she really understands about herself and her emotions...a really great Shakesperian concept..and I'v thought a lot about all the lit discussions that she has on the train with her new found friend...if you are interested..one of the greatest scholars of early english lit, Ros Ballasters an Oxford professor when writing about the great early English novelists developed the concepts of didatic and amatory love..she points out that Bronte and other were perceptive enough to see the while great passion burned brightly it was not ultimately sustainable and that didactic love, where emotions are shared on multiple levels is a more long tern and sustainable human relationship...Jonatha n wanted to see "if they liked the same movies" but couldn't bring himself to the comittment...too bad for him....

...its the wonderful and clever way that Pam has Carrie tell us how "amature" is really her safe word...

I'd love another story too and I gave Pam some ideas...but we'll just have to wait for the muse to strike...thanks for organizing this forum

If I hadn't been moving I would have re-read Safe Word...

but after reading Carrie's Story for the book club I pretty much had to buy Safe Word right away, and I wasn't disappointed. I loved it!

Hi Molly! Take your time to catch up with the posts, and I'll take a stab at telling the uninitiated about pony play.

I wanted to go to a race, so the ponies were a big attraction!

Molly, I was just telling them that I begged you for another book, this one about what happened to Jonathan down the line.

I recall you told me no, lol. This was a couple years ago. But I am still holding out hope!!

I hadn't ever really thought about pony play more than a passing notion till these 2 books and now I am fascinated by it. I don't think it will ever really be my kink but its definitely interesting.

Lauren, those were my favorite moments too. I remember one particular passage...I think it might have been in Carrie's Story though. And Carrie talks about how she had to run off and hide in the WC and masturbate because she was getting so hot over the idea of Jonathan's capricious orders, and the way he just demanded what he wanted of her.

oohhhh that resonated with me. I understood it completely.

I ride, so the concept intrigues me, though I'm not generally into any type of role-playing.

I will go on and ... more
Annabel,

I've not yet finished Safe Word, but I am the opposite of you... Jonathan wasn't the man for me at all...although I AM warming to him so far, in Safe Word... we shall see if I feel like you do when I finish.

I loved Kate and Jonathan's relationship. And I did love that whole her shutting him down and how he got it back together. Wow.

I take it that these stories are told from the POV of the submissive/bottom/what ever? I probably would not enjoy them. I don't have a submissive cell in my body.

Hi Molly!

I really did enjoy Carrie's Story and usually sequels, for me, never quite live up to the anticipation, but so far I am with you on Safe Word. It's been more enjoyable for me so far!

I haven't read Safe Word yet. I have read Carrie's Story. It was interesting. I'm not 100% sure if I plan to read the sequel.

So I'm asking all of you who have read it...Is it worth continuing the story? Did you like it more, ... more
Definately read Safe Word....it gives you closure on the story and helps your accept Carrie and her world as perhaps a reality......the book is written to follow the days of Jonathan and Carrie in Avignon when they reunite after Greece but Pam skillfully uses this back and forth to keep the story moving and the contrasts between the time lines is very effective....

Well, Carrie is submissive by choice. She's not a doormat AT ALL. So you might not find it as distasteful as you think. You will probably like Carrie.

But if you're not submissive, you'll DESPISE Jonathan. I'm super submissive, so he's like, my dream man, LOL.

Literally, I desperately want this man with all his neuroses and his capricious cruelty and that quaking, emotional layer underneath. I just love any complicated character, and he is super complicated. Too bad he's fictional, heh heh.

Pony play is pretty widespread--there are magazines about it, and ranches (or maybe they're just fixed up for the magazines.) There's at least one "paddock" in the Boston/Providence area, and they have a room at the annual Fetish Fair Fleamarket where experienced human ponies show their training and conformation, and the curious can take the reins or have someone harness and drive them as well. I don't know whether there are actual races anywhere--Molly, how much of that was your world-building? Some of the horses I've seen at the Fetish Fair get themselves up like circus horses, with plumed headdresses, etc., which looks like a lot of fun, but not especially submissive.

I'm thinking I probably will read it. I did feel like I kind of wanted to know what happened next. And I like that it sounds like the emotional comes through more in this book.

For those who are into pony play and enjoyed it in Molly's books, there is a book called As She's Told by Anneke Jacob that has super intense power exchange and some great pony play and objectification in the last quarter of the book or so. It's VERY intense, not for the kink dilettante. But the book as a whole is beautifully written.
