Ther troops are near and dear to me. I just spent the weekend at Ft Hood doing a welcome home party for over 400 that we deployed last year.

Indeed. Like Chaucer as well. I mean, the Miller's Tale - I remember reading that in high school and being like, "I get to read this for class???"
My Honors English teacher in high school was actually cool about pointing out some of the raunchy jokes in Romeo & Juliet. Maybe she thought it would help us all pay attention!

I enjoyed most parts of the book. It's easier to say what I liked least. I guess when I read the original, in my teens, the interactions between Darcy and Elizabeth were what I liked best, so the touch of parody involving them here is what I liked least. I kind of got off on the repressed passion and sexuality in the original Austen books, so the whole whipping out his cock part threw me out of the story for a bit.

(For repressed passion in an Austen movie, think of Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility.)

Now, THAT would be hot. I think for my next poem I might try rewriting the ending speeches from Katherine and Petruchio. Though it almost seems blasphemous when they're so beautiful and sexy already.

I was too and I know, it doesn't make much sense that people raise a ruckus about teaching teens the safety of safe sex but are alright with rape and murder on prime time television.

Darcy is hot in either version. But I was very glad that Lady Catherine didn't have her way with him.

I'd heard that there were some over-the top flames in criticisms of the book, so I asked Mitzi about them.

2. I've heard that you've had some pretty extreme reactions from some readers. Are there some particularly memorable ones you'd like to share? Positive as well as negative, of course, although negative rants do tend to be the most entertaining.

Mitzi: It's quite laughable to read some of the comments that have been made, particularly from people who haven't even read the book or, for that matter, anything I've ever written. You'd think those defending Miss Austen's honor would be a bit more polite in their discourse. Many comments that have been posted were actually removed by site moderators, so that pretty much says it all. The book is intended to be good raunchy fun, not a Nobel Prize nominee. These people really need to get a sense of humor and get off their high horses. Authors have forever been remaking and adapting the classics. Go study some literary history before casting stones!

A Dom friend of mine sent me Petruchio's final speech and I sent Katherine's back to him so I guess I'd already kind of imagined that.

I think I was 13 when it came out? It was my favorite movie for awhile and I feel no shame in saying that. It's very cute.

Last year we had a group from the army named the Headhunters, this year we have a platoon of 60 that we sent blankets and boxes to last week. I ride (motorcycles) with The American Legion Riders and these guys and girls so truly appriciate getting acre packages.
