Will leave with a question as to who has had some of that spirit?
Sorry, but it's foul. I tried it a couple of times in England, with the whole sugar and water and spoon thing.

It must be nice to have such an accepting family.

I read it! Only the first one, though! I really liked it!

Read the books, watched the tv show, was really bummed when they cancelled it. So much lovely snark.

So delicious. I do love licorice and ritual.
I like licorice but not as a liqueur. I've never tried absinthe but I have tried Oozo and Sambuca. They were both ok, but not something I prefer. Sambuca is nice in coffee with a lemon twist though.

I've had it. Have a bottle in my pantry right now. Actually, two bottles I think. Hubby loves the stuff.

Never have had absinthe, but fairly tempted to try.
I had to look up absinthe... I knew how it was drunk and seen book characters drink it in several novels, but I had never learned what it was made of, and was assuming it was some opium drug. Apparently, it's strong alcohol with the flavor described by Antipova. Interesting.

Another thing we always seem to notice about anthologies from Cleis is the variety of stories in each of them, even when they share a theme. I really appreciate that, especially when they surprise me. Mitzi always supplies work that's out of the ordinary. She said:

"I hope readers will enjoy Red Velvet and Absinthe and discover that the anthology offers something a bit different from the usual paranormal and erotic fare. There are plenty of familiar names contributing to it as well as some newcomers who are definitely writers worth keeping a close eye on. Light those scented candles by your bedside and fill up that absinthe glass, because there's plenty here to keep you occupied!"

Not with wormwood. That's why I used to get it shipped via courier from Germany (yay for goth friends in early college... I probably would never have done all that research myself)

You can taste somethign pretty similar if you just get some anisette, though. It's not green, but you can louche it the same and add flaming sugar the same.

It has been for several years now. Only certain brands, though, as they have to certified to be thujone-free. (less than 10 mg of thujone per kilogram of absinthe).

There was never much of a family in the first place, as I'm an only child. My parents are both deceased now. But as I said, they weren't particularly bothered. They just wanted me to do work I could feel proud of, and I hope I've done that.
