I want to know which Cal Exotics toys you generally avoid or advice ppl to stay away from them? Why?

My only tidbit of advice is to read the reviews.

Honestly, I avoid them altogether. I've had too many issues.

I would either read the reviews, or check to see what the rating is. Usually 4 out of 5 and 5 out of 5 are the ones to assume are better.

If it's made of jelly, avoid it.

If any review says it smells bad, avoid it.

Those are my general rules.

This. I've had great success with some California Exotics toys. They're also the manufacturers of the new luxury line of Jopen toys, which are phenomenal. I definitely do not turn my nose up at the line, because they have some nice items.

Read the reviews, avoid things made of jelly/PVC and anything the reviewers say smells bad.

I avoid jellies now, and read the reviews. Find someone who has similar taste in toys and vibrations and read all their reviews on Cal Exotics. Some are great others are so so. Same with most brands.

Hi folks, hope you are all having a great holiday.
I have been reading all your great comments, and we appreciate the
input. I would just like to give a little input in defense of our company.
First, we are not defined by a few "jelly" items that every
major manufacturer had had in their lines over the years. Let's not forget that
to evolve an industry from scratch meant much experimentation
with different materials...this has been a 40+ year
process. For over twenty of those early years, the chemical companies
were not exactly beating a path to our doors. It took
many years to get compounders to produce materials
for us, and a continual effort on our part to get phthalate free
materials that would fit into our molding processes at a cost that allowed us
to mass produce. If the world's largest children's toy makers were not
aware of potential health risks from phthalates, how could
we possibly be? Point is, adult toy manufacturing was a small cottage industry
until the last 20 years, and our volume has grown to the point that
21st century materials, machinery, and processes are
now readily available to us. Like I said, it's evolution, and what took over 40 years to create will take time to change over.
Be patient...CalExotics is almost totally safe and pure, and will have changed almost every process to get us there.
Now, with over 3200 branded products, and 2000 private labeled items, there will definitely be items that are loved, and some not so much. It's all about choice and "something for everyone." We cover all price points so no matter your budget, we have something for you. We must remain competitive, and hope everyone continues to make choices after reading about our products. We do not shy away from criticism, in fact, we encourage it. We send out review samples monthly to all major reviewers, publications, bloggers, and our own Sexpert program. It's all part of what a woman's vision was and is today. Susan Colvin, our President and Founder is hands on daily creating the greatest overall toy selection in the world at price points that people from every walk of life can afford. I can tell you that we appreciate everyone's time sending us feedback, and we definitely take it to heart! Merry Christmas everyone, and to all a good night! Al Bloom

Words to live by...we agree. Just remember that depending upon the way some items are packaged, chemical odors are sometimes trapped before fully cured. That first blast of chemical smell will dissipate in a matter of minutes and be fine, safe and pure. Not unlike any material used for everyday household needs that gives off a rubber or plastic smell when first taken out of their packaging, sex toys almost always need to breath a bit out of the package. Cal Exotics does make a lot of silicone stuff now, and I swear by their silver bullet vibes!

I don't discriminate against a company, I take each individual toy I receive from either monthly assignments, manufacture assignments, buyouts, or personally buying them full price and review the toy based on how it works for me. I do this with every toy that I have encountered and will continue to do so. I do try to stay away from products that are not rated high on Eden's safety material score, but most of the products that I've seen produced now are mainly safe items.

I don't buy jelly products. I'd rather wait until I can afford a silicone version of what I'm looking for. Other than that, I read the reviews.

Thank you so much for posting this. It's great to know that companies are following what we're talking about here on the forum. And I would like to personally vouch for CalExotics. I've never had a problem with any of the toys I've received in the past and I get kind of excited when I see that the admin has chosen one of your products for me to review. Keep up the excellent work and I look forward to seeing new products!

All very interesting posts. To be honest, I've had good experiences and bad experiences with several big-name brands, CalExotics and DocJohnson included. It's like a car manufacturer: you'll have your Scions, your Toyotas, and your Lexi (my new pluralization of Lexus). Some will shine, others will "get the job done." I don't have any brands that I categorically avoid, but I definitely try to stick to a brand's strong suit instead of buying things they're not the best at making. That's the importance of votes, reviews, and general research!

My first bullet came from Cal Exotics. Thanks so much to Al Bloom on rebutting the negative. It is great to work with a company that admits faults and also stands behind their products. They also give a warranty on all their products...not every company does that. I have seen a shift recently in product materials from Cal Exotics and I am excited about the whole Jopen line!

Al, I want to thank you for popping in all over the forums. It's awesome to see people so involved in their companies.

As for things I avoid? I've had hits and misses with just about every company I've tried so far. I've had a few CalEx things I wasn't so fond of, and a few that worked out great. Same with LELO, and others I can't even think of right now. Every company is going to have stuff that works great for one person, but maybe not so much for another, and I really don't think it's fair to write off a whole company based on a few duds.

Thanks for your input, Al!

I think a lot of toys that are perfect for one person may not be for an other. Also, some toys that some people hate are the greatest toy for others.

I do, too, avoid jelly and Sil-A-Gel, but I try a lot of different toys and am often surprised that some high priced toys don't live up to expectations while some mass produced toys are just great.

I'd let the OP know that reading reviews and doing research and experimenting is the best way to find wonderful toys for your needs.

Every company has hits and misses and often it depends on the desire of the individual customer.

Good luck. Read the reviews, those are your best guide.

Yep!

And when I was trying out a rabbit for the first time, I knew that CalEx would have one with a strong motor, *and* that they'd be honest on their packaging. I chose one that was TPR silicone, and I know that they're making more and more safe toys all the time.

California Exotics has some of my favorites, but so do many other companies. I think if there was a full company to avoid they would of been out of business by now. All companies have toys that are great and some that are not so great, which all comes down to personal opinion. I do not think it is right to simply avoid a whole company out of one bad experience.

Sex toys are something that each person likes there own of, like candy. Do you avoid all Willy Wonka candy because you do not like their chocolate? No because they have too many wonderful other candies. See what I mean?

Thanks Al for your input.

I really do not avoid anything at all. I am not a fan of some materials, but I will take them if they are an assignment, that is what condoms are for, I do not buy them, though. The only thing I absolutely avoid is realistic, but that is my personal opinion, only you can make yours.

Thank you for your imput Al I really hate to see an entire company blasted and I fail to understand why CalExotics is being singled out here! I have plenty of their toys from all price ranges and while some of them are not my favorite quite a few are well loved (pun definitely intended).
The reviews are here for the purposes of narrowing the choices a bit and helping us all feel confident when we make a purchase.
I would think that with the diversity of folks here that we could extend that same consideration to the different manufacturers...let's face it if we aren't happy with a manufacturer then most likely they won't be around for long on EF. It's just not good business sense.

I also love that Al Bloom is involved and clearly does care about Cal Exotics! That's a really nice thing to see.

As for my personal experiences, all 15 of them have been well, either bad or decent. I don't totally avoid a company though! I did just buy the Little Black Panty a couple of weeks ago and enjoy it so much! I think I just have to be extra picky with certain toys.

Some people just have a lot of bad experiences or reactions and are scared to revisit.

Thanks everyone...we try to make something for everyone, from inexpensive up through our Vanity by JOPEN line...by the way, did you all hear that we won Luxury Toy Brand of the year award at the just concluded XBiz Awards show? Really an honor. Even in our lowest priced vibrating products, we sped RoHs motors, heavy duty wiring, and top quality materials. No company, in my 42 years in the business, takes that much care when developing new products. Overall, with over 3400 products, California Exotic Novelties and JOPEN do a great job making reliable products at all price points. Remember that everything is not perfect in an imperfect world...sometimes, a flaw gets by us once an item goes into production, but we have a great Customer Service history that shows we care. Our Better Business Bureau record is excellent over the last 18 years which proves my point. Al
