The safest way.

This item is made from PVC. It should not still be emitting an odor after thoroughly washing it with warm soap and water. If, after thorough washing it still smells, let me know. All older items of PVC, including household goods, still will emit a subtle smell, but it should not be overpowering!

I've had mine for over a year now and when i first received it yes it had a subtle smell, just give it a few thorough washings and always wash after every use and you should be good to go. Mine doesn't even smell at all anymore.
