Their products always seem to 'hit the spot', if you know what I mean,
but my god the SMELL!
I can not stand the smell of their jelly toys!

Anyone with me?

Hey guys,

The smell you are referring to can be caused by several factors. It is actually a myth that phthalates have an odor. In reality, they are odorless! Our rubber is nontoxic and non-phthalate. If a particular product is kept in a closed container, that could account for the odor. It would also depend on how long the product was sitting in the store.

With that being said, the odor is easily alleviated. We always recommend that users wash their rubber toys with warm water and antibacterial soap.

I hope I answered your question! Please let me know if there's anything at all you guys are interested in. The Doc Johnson team is here for you

I have all five of their rock star products and noticed no smell with them. I love that line of their products and can't recommend it highly enough.

I recently received something from their Softee line for a review. It smelled, so I left it sitting out in the open so it could finish outgassing. After about 3 days the smell has dissipated a fair bit. The toy still smells, but it isn't nearly as strong.

I think it depends on what the toy is made of. The toy I received for review is made of squishy PVC with their Sil-A-Gel additive.

Yeah, the Rock Star line is made of plastic and silicone. So there shouldn't be any smell there.

It all depends on what the item is made of. PVC, rubber, jelly and so forth all have a smell to them no matter who the manufacturer is.

Just to follow up on Erica's post.. we make our silicone, rubber, and jelly in-house, in North Hollywood, California. We employ over 500 people in our facility and all of our products go through rigorous quality control. We have a full-time chemist on staff, as well as an R & D specialist, sculptors, artists, engineers, and other development staff. From inception, to molding, to choosing the raw materials, all the way to packaging - we do it all hands-on. Over 75% of our nearly 10,000 product total catalog is made right here in America!

Some toys do have a smell - some of which are scented with fragrances (such as soft powder, cherry, etc). While some users are averse to fragrance in the material blend, other users enjoy it. We also add stabilizers and Sil-A-Gel to make the toys withstand wear and tear better and make them easier to clean.

Depending on the material and the time it has spent in the packaging, you might need to air out the toy after washing it.

You can always ask us about anything you'd like to know and we will do our very best to answer you guys in a timely manner! Thanks again!

It depends on what it's made of.

Jelly of course is gunna be stinky so I stay FAR away from it. -laughs- Silicone has that silicone smell, but it's not detectable unless you got it right under your nose.
