Hi guys! Just want to introduce myself to the forum. I started working at Doc in June and I freakin love it. It’s a “family business” that I never thought I would be a part of (the founder and CEO is my dad! And Chad is my brother!)…but I started working here after I graduated from university, and it was too great of a fit for me to leave.

Now I’m working for Victoria, our marketing exec, as her “marketing coordinator” and LA ambassador… Also, I work the Doc’s twitter and facebook, and help organize lots of other fun stuff (contests, campaigns, etc.) Victoria is really making huge, amazing changes happen here at Doc. And we are so excited to include Eden in all our ideas, news, etc.

Hi Erica! It's a pleasure to meet you. Since you're daughter of the founder and CEO, perhaps you know the answer to my question. How did the company get its name? I've known about Doc Johnson products for many years (and have owned a few), and I've always wondered about that. I am one of those types who is fascinated by the histories of companies whose products I enjoy.

I didn't know about the business until I was 13. I found out by accident when my mom pulled up to a factory with a big sign that said "DOC JOHNSON SEX TOYS". Up until then, I thought it was an actual childrens' toy factory, and always wondered why I wasn't seeing any of these toys...ever. Thanks for the kind welcoming words!

Hey Yaoi...From what I understand, the first factor was the president at the time-- Lyndon B. Johnson. It was sort of a mock tribute, since Johnson was responsible for a huge number of crackdowns in the adult industry and was big on passing anti-smut laws. I love that irony.

Also, "Johnson" was one of the most popular last names at the time. The "Doc" was a reference to our professionalism and reliability. We wanted people to associate us with a "friendly neighborhood Doc". Thank you for the welcome!

Hey there, thank you for the welcome! I actually live in WeHo, but the factory is in NoHo. Try Tony's Italian Deli on Riverside and Summer Canteen, also on Riverside. I hear Tokyo Delves is great for sushi and big groups, but I have yet to try it.

I'm curious: since your family owns Doc Johnson, were your parents open to you using sex toys before you turned 18? I.e., were you able to get vibrators from your family's company or was this something your parents just weren't comfortable discussing openly with you when you were young? (I hope this isn't too personal, but I find the idea of growing up in a family whose bread and butter is adult toys to be absolutely fascinating! I can't help but be jealous of all the potential perks!)
