Vibrating glass

I was wondering how you decided to make a vibrating glass toy. How did you make sure it was safe for use? I know many people are uncomfortable with the idea of vibrating glass and wanted to get your perspective on it.

Hello, and thank you for your inquiry. One of the reasons we decided to manufacturer a vibrating glass toy is from the multiple requests we had gotten over the years. Vibrating glass is a great toy since your getting the benifits of glass (non-porus, heat retaining, ect..) with a vibrator. We also use Borosilicate glass as it is a stronger glass than your average soft glass.

Other manufacturers have mentioned being unwilling to use even borosilicate glass for vibrators because there was too much danger of microfractures. How did you manage to deal with/circumvent this issue?

Hi There, and sorry for the delay in response. To answer your question we use a padded material inside the glass so there is no vibe to glass contact which helps with the transfer of vibration without the worry of microfracturers.

Yes, Luscious Lily, Mike is definitely correct in his statement. I think the major concern when working with fragile mediums such as ceramic and glass is direct surface to surface contact. I personally own one of the DW vibrators and can honestly say that it is the only one I have personally seen from any brand that does not come into direct contact with the glass. Thanks Mike for that clarification

When my uncle (he's a contractor) lays down ceramic flooring, he uses this deliciously springy subflooring (padding) between the wood or cement floor and the ceramic tiles. It is bouncy enough that we used to flop on it when we were kids tagging along on jobs. They even use it when doing heated ceramic floors.

The padding has the same effect in both cases, it dampens. With the toys, it absorbs and diffuses vibrations; with the flooring, it absorbs the impact of people walking on the tiles.

Sorry... my, ermmm, blue collar is showing

Hello Mike!

During the development of the vibrating glass toy, did you perform any tests like having 20 of them run for week straight to emulate a certain time frame of usage. To observe the padded materials long term performance?

I can't help but to picture a mad scientist lab filled with the glass vibrators and some Tesla coils

Wow, thanks for all the great responses! My first DW glass vibrator was a bit of a lemon (which was quickly replaced by EF's epic customer service); I got to see the inside of the toy when the sleeve came off of the vibrator. I'd been curious ever since about that padding I found. It's cool that you found a way to make it work!

Hi Gary,

Sorry for the delay in response. I'm in and out of the office quite a bit. To answer your question yes we did run multiple vibrating Dons to gauge their performance and also ran some completely submersed in water. They ran great, and with no issues of the inner material breaking down.
