This question was asked of me today via email; I would like to share my response with everyone.
Our toys are not hand blown. This term (hand blown) should only refer to soft glass (art glass). Our toys are made of borosilicate glass. We use torches to soften, melt and shape (sculpting) the glass into our finished product. The correct terminology to be used here is Lampworking—A hollow borosilicate toy is considered to be lampworked-- as it would be made with a torch. Torches have the ability to reach the high temperatures (2500-3000F) needed to melt borosilicate glass.
Hollow soft glass toys are the only glass toys that could warrant the term “blown” or “hand blown”.
