Glass Ben Wa Balls and Anal Beads

Adam Burns Adam Burns
Thanks to everyone for all of your wonderful questions. My inbox has been overflowing with compliments, questions and suggestions. As most of the inquiries are coming to me via email, I wanted to start posting certain responses and share with you hot topics. I'm so glad to be revisiting this issue..although it has been years since I have touched on the subject and the first time for discussion on EdenLink.

Kevin and I first started our R&D probably back in 2006 on the idea of creating glass anal beads. Well, that idea didn't go too far for two very important reasons.

1) traditional chords used for beads were made out of nylon. This material is porous and can harbor bacteria. This is not news to any of us, as warnings are usually clearly written on packaging--- "beads are intended for single use only. Dispose of after use". Now do any of us follow these rules?!?! probably not---and that's on a 5 dollar strand of plastic beads. Could you imagine disposing of a $100 strand of handmade glass beads??--same answer PROBABLY NOT!!! Ethically, I can't promote multiple usage of a bacteria ridden chord...and it would absolutely crush me to have to tell them people to retire their investment.

2)Glass on glass contact is extremely dangerous--it opens a door for the creation of micro-fractures on the glass surface--the most dangerous kind of fracture because you cannot always see them.

I need to again stress point #2 because glass Ben Wa balls have been brought to market. This is only eliminating 1 of 2 problems--yes, the chord is now gone, but the issue of glass on glass still exists.

A lot of this is common sense.... would you bang, knock or even gently rub two glass dildos together before putting them inside your body? I would hope that everyone's answer is no.

Safety comes first people.

So to answer the question (without hesitation)..XHale will not be marketing glass Beads or Ben Wa balls..

Don't get me wrong..its a great idea (awfully beautiful to boot) but unfortunately could be hazardous to you good health.

Is there was way to check for microfractures "at home".

I may be wrong, but I feel like in a lab safety course they used a UV light to show areas of strain on pyrex labware...am I off base there?

If so, could a tanning bed be used? Hrmmmm.

Kinda Sorta, Red

Many UV lights, blacklights and even halogens may show surface damage. A decent chip may actually show up as "glowing" under a blacklight.

I couldn't give you an educated answer on the tanning bed bulbs as I'm not in that business.

It may be a fun experiment, however. Just don't tell the manager at your local tanning salon--hehehe.

Polariscopes can also show surface damage. You would need to look at the glass from a 90 degree angle. This may be what you are referring to from science class.

Wow is that ever good to know!

I can't even imagine the thought of glass shards inside... OUCH!

Adam, you're seriously awesome for bringing us all of this information. I actually was considering a pair of glass ben wa balls, because it had slipped past me that the balls rub and clack together inside, yikes!

I've seen other kinds of kegel exercisers that weren't made on the double-ball model. Would you consider making single egg-shaped kegel toys, kind of like the Teneo Uno link or these link ? They'd obviously be much bigger, and wouldn't vibrate, but for more advanced users this could be a good thing.

We could definitely consider working on a single egg-shaped Kegel exerciser. What are your thoughts on this, Luscious Lily, if it were to be one solid piece glass? no holes or strings attached, literally. I am hesitant to have a hole bored through the center. I am thinking that we could do a nice solid clear egg..simple and classy. I would like to shoot for something that would weigh in at good 4-5 ounces. Not too heavy, yet just enough weight for a healthy "workout".

That sounds like a good idea. I couldn't imagine how you could safely attach a string, but it shouldn't be a problem for removing the egg. The only time I've needed a retrieval cord for kegel exercisers has been when they were soft and textured, because they cling to the walls of the vagina. Smooth glass, on the other hand? Bearing down should bring it out without an issue. A solid glass piece would be easier to clean, too.

The weight sounds good, too. There isn't much on the market now in the way of heavier exercisers that can be work throughout the day, and an egg like that would be a lovely addition!

You insight is much appreciated, Lily! Would you care to test market the item for us, and let everyone here on Eden Link know just how wonderful we are?!?! j/k. No, but seriously, Lily, I would be honored to have you be the first woman to have the honors. I am requesting a prototype be put into manufacture this afternoon based on you initial feedback. You ask and you shall receive!! (kind of like a genie in a bottle) If it's a hit, maybe we can even name it after you Now wouldn't that be grand!

Adam,
You could also do a shape and size similiar to the Kegelcisor. I just reviewed that and found that I absolutely love the size of that for Kegels. I can just imagine how it would feel if out of glass.

XHale's Grooverider is also a design that may be appropriate and fun.

DBD--we have some really amazing shapes and designs. It has just been a very long time since the purchasing department at Edenfantasy's has updated their selection...I am going to contact that department soon to make them aware of the interest in the brand. I have noticed that many pieces are out of stock..it's not that we aren't shipping, we just aren't receiving orders. I also think it's time to restructure the glass section (hint, hint). About two years ago, the buyer at the time was going to divide glass by manufacturer. EdenFantasys does a great job at boasting a huge selection of glass products, but the brands all melt together, and as you can see not all glass is alike. It should be separated, just as there is a separate section for the Phallix brand. People do shop for glass by brand name..it's just so easy to get lost in the shuffle when your products are separated solely by the manufacturing material.

Awesome idea, I never found the eggs attractive at all until I thought about them being glass! If they work out I'll get one!

we could definitely do that Carrie Ann. The polka dots you are referring to are actually 24K gold. Might be a nice finishing touch!

Those new faders would be lovely, too! A simple clear one might be a more budget friendly starting place, though. Pie in the sky dreaming here, but maybe we could end up with matching lines of Moons and Eggs! You've done some beautiful things with the Moon Plug line, they're all oh so visually striking.

we will see what we can come up with. Another interesting misconception about glass you just mentioned--and that's regarding clear glass. What you are really paying for when it comes to glass is labor costs. Clear pieces are actually much more difficult to make... Why, do you ask? Well, simply put, color is an easy way to hide flaws , both manufacturing flaws as well as flaws in the glass in its raw form. It is kind of like hiding diamond inclusions behind a prong on a ring setting) Quality labor is $40/hr. no matter how you look at it. That is a whole new topic we can get into at a later date. Let's get this egg made for you first

Let's make clear sexy again this year. If anyone has noticed, most of our pieces are clear for the most part...and much of our color is incorporated into the pieces with precious metals ie: 24K Gold and Silver. I only wish the wholesale buyers would understand this...they always want color, color and more color. There was a trend about 5 years ago...all of the glass companies were trying to "outdo" one another by making the more decorative piece....this simply was taking more time and allowing more room for manufacturing errors. Clever, yet very deceiving. Clear glass is so clean, pure and classy when properly made. Let's keep the decorations for the the counterculture side of the business..now isn't that food for thought?!?!

I really like your use of colour. It's done so in such in a very balanced way. Some 100% clear glass can be quite boring but yours is so well done. The faders look awesome.

Thank you for your compliment Adriana! I am hoping that once people become more educated on the manufacturing process, they will start to appreciate the minimalism of our designs. There is a reason why we do things the way we do, and it's not because we aren't skilled, trying to cut corners or save a few bucks...actually it's the complete opposite. We have the finest artists in the world working under our name...yes, it lowers our profit margins, but at the end of the day puts a smile on our faces knowing that we are producing the best in the world...hands down. I can confidently say that and it makes me proud

If I can make a suggestion myself, but it is also possible that it had been brought up in your own marketing meetings.

How about making a peanut-shaped kegel exerciser? Shorter than the Smartballs, maybe 3 inches long. With extremities with about 1-inch diameter and maybe a middle part of maybe half or three-quarter of an inch, depending on the strength of glass, I'm sure you know more than I do about that. Then, give both ball ends a nice "fader" effect and it's a deal.

An instant 'Wow' and 'Awwww' reaction from ladies. Yes, the whole thing would be completely insertable, but as a single piece, it should be fairly easy to push the first ball out and grab the piece by the middle.

Ah, and in case it was not obvious, the upcoming faders make me drool.
