Canadian EF Users... Is there any way to avoid custom charges. They are a B!

So far I have received one parcel via USPS/CP and i had no problems. It was here in about a week. I had another that attempted delivery yesterday but I was not home. It is happily waiting for my at my local post office.

I am thrilled about this option. It may take a day or 2 longer but it is WAY less of a hassle than UPS. I had so many problems with UPS drivers it was ridiculous. I had to call the 1800 number more times then not. It was horrible.

Any new updates on this? I'm planning to place an order, but the shipping issue is making me kinda cautious because the item(s) I want may end up being cheaper than the shipping/delivery cost and I could potentially just drive into town and get the items for cheaper if the shipping/delivery cost is $20-40 as mentioned.

This would be my first order of the year so I don't think I'd get charged for the frequency thing nor the fees for expensive items (it should be under $100). Also confirming, the free shipping for orders over x-amount doesn't apply to Canada right?

Thanks!

Up until my last order I had no idea there was a difference between ups and USPS, until I had to figure out why I owed $20 after already paying shipping. I am better informed now and that will be my last time ever using ups for anything, for any reason.

It's usually hard to annoy me, but I have to admit, I'm pissed. 30% of my package price just for touching the thing? They were already paid shipping. Then of course, they only deliver during random hours that I'm not home, and to reschedule or pick up at my local store I have to pay them extra. Then the fact that they don't take credit, debit or cash, I have to use a cheque to pay them. I'm 22, Of course I don't have cheques. My spell check doesn't even recognize the word.

What I actually hit reply to say was that now that I know the difference, I really appreciate the different shipping options that EF provides, it shows a high level of customer service and and just plain human decency that their so willing to work with us to help, a lot of companies aren't like that. Ups being a good example.

I just made an order, shipping through USPS. I will post again when it comes in. I'm kind of hoping that it doesn't get here for at least a week, because I wont be home until the 6th. If there are any customs fees, I don't know if my room mate will be able to cover them (of course I would pay her back, but she works at Walmart part time, so money is tight).

Anyways, I don't really mind the customs fees, my order was cheaper than ordering it in Canada regardless. As long as the fees are tax+handling (someone got $8.50 for handling) I find that acceptable.

Really hoping I can continue to support this company, I really like it's community vibe, which I have not found in Canada at all.

Don't use UPS! It's not customs, not taxes, and it doesn't have to do with the value of your package. UPS charges 'brokerage fee's' for some reason I have yet to figure out.

Most of my disposable income gets spent online, through Ebay, Julep, Clinique, Amazon, etc and of course Eden, from all over the world. I have never had to pay customs, duty's, taxes or anything extra for anything, at any time, for any reason, except the few times I have had to use UPS.

The last time ups was used to send something to me (from Eden) the value of the item was 2.10 (a back-ordered item that was sent to me automatically once it was back in stock) The extra fee? 15.08!

USPS might take a little longer, but at least you know what your getting.

UPS is kind of like Wal*mart in that way. I almost never use UPS because I believe in supporting the USPS.

Well for awhile there (quite a while ago), the only shipping option for Canadians was UPS so there wasn't really any other option. Thank goodness that changed. I've used USPS ever since lol!

So glad I read this before placing my order! I got a review assignment last week worth $24 and got dinged $12 from UPS. My first assignment came via UPS and I wasn't charged anything. I was a little leary to accept my review and place my order (totaling just over $100) but I feel better now using USPS instead of UPS, even if it will take a little longer - I can't complain since the item was free, but I'd rather pay 50% of the items worth directly to EF, not to UPS!
