To add to what Kris said, the colors can be edited in the file called global.css (in the CSS folder of whichever theme you pick)

If they really really don't want to mess with graphics software but they have a good digital camera, one way to still get banner art is to snap a picture of something (a pile of toys on a piece of fabric, a drawing they've made on paper, whatever). Then you can get a free program online called Irfanview that lets you crop and resize right to the exact size needed.

We can't get commission for shopping at our own store huh?

But we (even though we are already a part of Eden) can shop at someone elses store so we can earn them the commission, right?

Ohhhhh, I'll probably go with that - taking a photo and using the program to resize.
I think the graphics software will go straight over my head......

You can, technically, shop at your own store or someone else's. Affiliates currently can use their own links to make purchases. If you are paying with cash (i.e. Not Gift Cards) then we view it like a sale is a sale, and you are referring yourself. The purpose of the store is to refer others to Eden, though, while earning commission for the referral/sale.

If you are using Gift Cards / EdenPoints it's not fully ethical to use anyone's code or links as they'd be earning a cash percentage of a $0.00/free order.

It's safe. If you type in the same IP at a lookup service, it just gives abstract info about where the server (like RoadRunner or whatever) main office is located at such. Unless you're paying mega bucks for a private server, you probably have the same IP as several thousand other people. That's why blocking IP ranges to get rid of spam folks also winds up blocking good people too.

Ahhh ok.
I don't think I'll be shopping with myself cause I'm thinking I'll only have items I actually have tried.
Although a little section for toys I want might not be a bad idea - even if I still don't shop with myself.

But would it still earn someone else some commission if I was to use GC/points for some but had to use like $30 or so in cash as well?
Or is it only for if the person spends entirely cash?

Sweet. Thankyou.

Awesome store!!
I love the picture with toys on a beach scene

Hehehe - I haven't started mine yet. Procrastinating now...lol.
Are there color choices for the background or can we only have white?

Well I'm totally screwed.
These instruction might as well be in chinese for someone who is totally net stupid.

I can't even figure out the FTP file where I'm suppose to download the store layout to..........
In the hosting control panel there is FTP accounts and there's nothing there, FTP Session Control and Anonymous FTP. Where is this store file suppose to go??????????

And totally beyond me about the DNS settings Im suppose to do in my domain account.

I don't think these stores are a good idea unless ya have some knowledge already! It's a nightmare to work out.
Think I'm done for the night. Got so stressed, I've given myself a migraine.

Alrighty - I finally figured out the DNS thingies in my domain.
And found a tutorial in HostGator to figure out how to do the FTP bit.
I uploaded the Eden store builder thingie - all the files are there in my public FTP section so I think that's all good.

Now I just have to wait for my DNS settings to take effect (up to 72hrs), right?
And then I can hopefully start the store building part.

Hey Shell!

I am really glad you figured the store stuff out, I was worried after I read your first post. The stores do take a bit of effort, but we're always trying to streamline the process and provide support along the way.

Right now there are two themes to pick from: Eden white (white background) and Eden dark (black background).

I think the DNS settings take a little while to kick in, like you said, but you can set your store up whenever you want. The store is on your host, so the files are all in place already and you'll mostly be doing things in the Back Office, so if the DNS settings aren't working yet, it's ok.

Just let me know when you get the precursor stuff done (Store Configuration) and you're ready for your Store ID and Key.

Don't get too frustrated, just take a breather when you need to! I had the hardest time with the initial set-up and was ready to quit a dozen or so times Once the initial set-up is done, the other steps are much easier by comparison.

Sorry, when I fail I tend to have a melt down.
For me, if I have no clue on what I'm doing I need very direct ... describe every little step for me to understand.
I found the video tutorials on HostGator which allowed me to do each step when the video did. And I could see that I was in the right place by the video. So if anyone else uses HostGator and doesn't know how to build a site .. the video tutorials may help them get the DNS done and part of the FTP.

Wahoooooo - I'm rather fond of darker background sites so that's awesome!

My domain is with Namecheap. When I type in my domain URL - tame-your-inner-passio ns.com it brings me to a HostGator site with a log into my Cpanel.
Is this correct? I would have thought it would just take me to Namecheap or something til my URL is working.

Ummmmm - what's Back Office and where do I find that?
I have looked at some of the files in my FTP but I can't see where I do anything with them. I can highlight a file and then click view up the top in the menu but that just brings up a heap of html or something.

It is frustrating!
How did you work out all the FTP stuff.
Makes me wonder how someone came up with this whole FTP design. It's awefully complicated.

I so can't wait to get through this part and just enjoy the end product.

I'll get there - I can't allow myself to fail ... plus I paid out $76 something to get the hosting and domain. I'm in too deep now....lol.

Just gonna need a LOT of help getting there. This stuff goes straight over my head.

I'm sorry, I think I may not have understood which step you're on in the Getting Started tutorial. If your store files are on your host, and when you browse to your store's URL you just see a HostGator page, then I guess you will have to wait for the DNS settings to kick in. If your store files are uploaded, then visiting your store's URL should bring up a store wizard screen that looks like this:
Store wizard

If you're not seeing that install screen, it probably means one or more of the following:
-your DNS settings haven't taken effect yet
-your store files aren't in the right place on your host
-your store files aren't extracted

The "Back Office" is the back-end of the store, where you do work on your store. It's analogous to the User Account here at EdenFantasys, where you can submit reviews and change stuff for your public profile. You can access the back-end of these pages because they are your pages, but the rest of the world only sees the front-end (i.e. your profile page, your review, etc.).

Feel free to email me with questions, too. I've been helping a lot of affiliates through email support.

I haven't seen that image before.
This is the image I get when I try to search for my URL

My URL Page

I believe I extracted the files. I put them in the public FTP file part.
To get into my FTP part, I need to click on File Manager and this little box pops up and then I tick Public FTP Root (public_ftp)
Is that correct????

Then when I'm in that Public FTP root, this is what my files look like - is that correct and extracted?

FTP file

FTP file

That's just two to give an idea of the files that I think I uploaded and extracted.

So where do I find the Back Office?

If you have a Domain and Hosting, then you can start up a EPS or you can have a Personal Store here on site without having hosting and a domain. But with that, you rely on directing possible buyers to your Eden store.

Whereas with this type, you can advertise your site on Google so anyone could come across it and purchase - earning you commission.

Alrighty - I was able to nab bro for a few minutes to get him to check out if I have done things write in my hosting.
Turns out, this dildo (lol), put the files in the wrong place - I put them in public FTP and bro says they need to go in public html. LOL.

So I'm on my way to fixing that and hopefully smooth sailing for awhile. Fingers crossed!

Public HTML sounds right The files looked fine from your screenshots but I couldn't tell where they were located on your host. Now that you've said they were in Public FTP I can kind of make out the letters for the location. Heh. Ok, so once they're in the right place, email me if you have issues.

Any Eden Affiliate is welcome to request an EPS. We ask that you own a domain and have hosting for your site, or plan to get those things in place when you start setting up your store. You can check out the setup process here: Getting Started tutorial.

On a site note...
I mainly say "please request a store" because I need to keep track of who has a store; it's not really a matter of whether you can or can't have a store. We want our affiliates to have stores! We just want to know who is setting them up so we can provide support and know who is promoting Eden and in which ways.

Thanks for that.

LMAO - I just realised I put write instead of right. Don't know where my head was. Probably with the toy package that I was expecting...hehehe.

I tried twice this afternoon to put the files into the Public HTML but when I went to extract it, it would bring up some error.

But I uploaded the store files again and extracted. Bingo!
It's now showing that PrestaShop on my URL.
Ohhhh, that is SUCH a relief to get to this part.

I'm sure I'll be back for more help...hehehe.

Thankyou so much for everyone who has helped.

And guess what - I still have some hair left....

All the store tough parts are set up.
The next part said I could still go on with it even if I haven't received the Secret Key and that yet - by adding products.

When in my account, I only have the Contributor and Affiliate across the top bar thingie. There's no option to add any items to the store.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hey Shell,
Nope, you aren't doing anything wrong.

The Getting Started tutorial says "While the ID and Key are necessary for the store to work, you can still complete the rest of the tutorial and come back to enter the ID and Key numbers later." That means that you can set up URL Rewriting and add another "employee" account to your store admin and make categories and change your banner, but the store doesn't function as a store yet. You need the Store ID and Key in order to add products and for your store to be associated with your partner account.

I've received your email about getting your Store ID and Key and have requested it. I will send it to you as soon as I get it. Until then, you can delete the sample products, remove the sample categories and manufacturers, make your own categories, and some of the other things described in these tutorials (just not the ones about adding products ).
