#BillofRights - 3rd Amendment - You Have the Right to Relax

Contributor: Ansley Ansley

Life just seems like it never slows down these days and instead of finding ourselves with nothing to do, we find ourselves overwhelmed with all of the things we should be doing.

It seems like we never schedule relaxing into the mix. Always go, go, go! For busy moms and dads and executives and those going through school right now, what will any of it mean if you don't have time to reflect on it all?

You deserve the right to kick up your heels every once in awhile. How do you like to relax? Do you have to schedule time for yourself or is it something you can do whenever you want?

Friday afternoons are our 'no doing homework' time. We always take a few hours off to eat pizza and watch something silly on Fridays, even if we have to study and work on projects the rest of the weekend! With school we really have to schedule relaxation time.

My idea of actual relaxation is just me, alone, in any familiar place - home, a park, a bookstore, even work. I'm so twitchy that I have to have a small task to focus on, though.
Or, anywhere that isn't my usual state of 'at home, in constant contact with people'.

We cram in relaxation whenever possible, between classes and work. It isn't easy, but when we get to, MAN is it helpful.

I love to listen to music - I think that's my biggest relaxation practice. Well, that, wine, and my cat

I have anxiety problems and most relaxation techniques won't work for me. I've tried them all and nada. If I'm stressed the best thing for me is flogging and sex. That chills me out every time.

I generally watch tv shows to zone out... Reading novels is great if I'm not too stressed, but when I'm uber-stressed I can usually only turn off my brain with one of my favorite guilty pleasure shows.

As a full-time student working and doing internship, I don't have much time to relax, but when I do, I usually listen to music. I find Eden to be a relaxing endeavor as well. I also started taking an exotic dance class and a pole dance class (until my student budget couldn't handle it) and I like to to go to the movies and eat cookies with milk.

I try to make time for my self every week. I'll treat myself to something yummy, settle down with a nice book, and just try to decompress for at least an hour.

Sitting back, late at night watching tv and crocheting is my relax time. I do it nightly to just wind down after a long day. Sometimes it may only be a half hour but it is better than nothing.

Hear hear! Try explaining this to a therapist though...mine had to seriously stop and remember to be non-judgemental. He almost made it but had to point out that it would seem the flogging needed to be done again and again so it's not like it was one and done. I wasn't sure what to make of that since meditation and other relaxation practices are supposed to be practiced every day to be effective.

I normally like to relax by playing a video game (or my toys ), or waching tv after work but only when boyfriend isnt home. So it doesnt happen very often. And with two jobs it happens even less than i would like.

I enjoy cooking something fun and creative, especially with my best friend, who is a chef. My relaxing nights start in the kitchen, and end with a good movie.

I hear that! Hubby comes home and it's time for me to pay attention to him. I have very little downtime for just myself these days. But I went from a lot of downtime to being really busy, so as my mother-in-law would say, "it's better than a sharp stick in the eye". LOL

Relaxing is almost foreign to me right now. Between work and family and kids it's difficult, but I love to write when I have time, as well as read. Like some others I love to cook, and that really relaxes me as well.

I do try to find time to relax. It's hard right now with hubby away and me with the kids. I usually stay up to relax a bit after they go to sleep

Vigorous exercise relaxes me very much. I've speant hours doing various exercises before just to calm down. I also enjoy reading but that's harder to do when the kids and hubby are home so it's usually exercise.

Baking relaxes me. When I've had a long day I like to spend the evening baking. Yoga is something that I have to schedule to be able to do and I feel like that is my ultimate form of relaxation at this time.
