Both Robin Williams and Robert De Niro were considered for the role of Jack in The Shining, however after watching their respective performances in Mork and Mindy and Taxi Driver, Kubrick deemed Williams too psychotic and De Niro not psychotic enough. Harrison Ford was also considered for the role, but as we know, Nicholson won the role.

I hope you have watched White Noise with Michael Keaton so you will know what I'm talking about. Anyway my husband and I watched that with my oldest daughter and afterwards she was so scared she wouldn't even get off the couch without me holding her hand. She cried so hard because she had to go to the bathroom and she was afraid "they" would get her now since she had seen the movie. I took her to the bathroom and held her hand the whole time as well as allowing her to sleep in bed with me that night while my husband took the couch. I felt so bad that I wouldn't allow any scary movies to play on T.V. as long as she was at home or awake.

As for creepy dolls, my mother has a creepy little ceramic doll that has it's tongue sticking out. It creeped out my kids so much that she put it by the candy jar and told them that it was watching them. We had to throw out the candy because the kids wouldn't touch it.

Pyscho was the first horror movie to show a character in their underwear as well as being the first to show a toilet flushing

For real. That movie would suck if it were anyone else. And I totes hate the mini-series even though the storyline and graphics are better.

My ex-roommate and I dressed as the Grady sisters for a film festival event where they were showing the Shining. I miss being part of a haunted house troupe, but it's exhausting work.

Jack was fabulous in that movie. My mother and I love that flick. My oldest can sound just like the kid when he starts yelling Red Rum.

In regards to Kubrick as a whole, he was a meticulous director and notorious for his retakes. The scene where Halloran explains to Danny what ‘shining’ is, was shot 147 times and it’s a world record.

And remember the scene with the blood pouring out of the elevator? That shot took nine days to set up each time. Kubrick managed to get it in three takes. It took almost a year to shoot the scene exactly as he’d envisioned it.

Did you ever see the new-er one that they had on Syfy/SciFi a few years ago? Honestly, way creepier than the Jack Nicholson one.
