EF "Unethical"?

Hi there, guys. Had you seen this article?

link

I didn't know where to post it or who to show it to, but it was one of the first links that showed up when I searched for "edenfantasys porn" so that I could find the DVD store. (Which, by the way, I still haven't been able to find...LOL) It's the first time I've seen anything negative said about EF!

What's the deal here? Thoughts, opinions, etc?

Well, it seems important that someone from Eden should look into it but all that tech stuff escapes me. Basically Eden doesn't do what that guy thinks they should and now he's on a crusade. I'm enjoying myself here and don't have any issues so...if my contributions help Eden I'm more then okay with that.

I think you'll find few people prepared to talk about this issue here.

Sounds like the guy is just whining.

I suppose he is not a reviewer, blogger, or affiliate for Eden Fantasys, if he was he would know we get plenty. Here are a few examples:

1. Community.
2. Free products and gifts.
3. The ability to express ourselves on EdenCafe and other platforms.

The tech stuff makes my head spin.

The writer is also touting "equal opportunity" on the internet, but I should point out that Google themselves, the company he's saying EF is preventing from following and cataloguing it's outbound links takes money from companies for the purchase of keywords to give them priority in search rankings over smaller companies even if smaller companies' websites are properly SEO'd. To me that doesn't sound like equal opportunity either.

This is something that's been going on for quite some time; the rumor-mongering, nasty blog writing, etc.

Some people just get bored and find something to whine about to get attention, readers, followers, etc.

My thoughts? If you dislike a store that much then remove it from your life.

I've stopped reading that crap; I enjoy EF, that's all that matters to me. And quite frankly, where I do my shopping, especially adult shopping is none of these people's business!

Yeah, I read it when it first came out. EF addressed it. I'm on my iPhone now, so I will not go searching for the thread, but it is on the forum. I see no reason to dredge this back up. If you don't like it, leave.

I ditto this. The techno mumbo-jumbo is all Greek to me (though I did try to follow what they were saying). But I seriously do get points towards gift cards, free toys, multiple special discounts a year, and a kick-ass community to come chat with! There's really nothing more I'm asking Eden for.

And, honestly, if they're doing something different than this guy thinks they should, there's probably a fair enough reason for it. Or at least it's not something only Eden is doing. I mean, good gracious!!! This guy makes it sound like every other business on the internet is comprised of heavenly angels who don't sin. Comparing Eden to other businesses I know, they still come out on top!

I don't think it's malicious, because EF has little to gain as the linkers are unlikely to be competitors. I think it was a technical decision made because it was easier on the EF computer people.

OTOH I don't worry too much about Bottomtalk's ratings. If people want to find it they can, and if they don't want to find it it's unlikely they'll be interested, because it's mostly anal stuff. If I was doing it over I would probably choose a different name before complaining about EF's tech decisions (because there's lots of "bottom talk" regarding the economy that messes up searches).

I didn't "dredge it back up". I did a search and didn't find any reference to it on the forums, so I assumed it hadn't been seen. I thought it should be addressed, so I posted it. "If you don't like it, leave."

I suppose someone like that is just not going to be pleased, no matter what you do, but I thought EF should have the opportunity to take a stab at easing the tension this guy obviously feels. On the other hand...There's no such thing as bad publicity. If I was a shopper and ran across that guy's site, drawing attention to EF, I think I'd be just as likely to shop here once I visited the site and looked around...

I also thought the whole thing was blown out of proportion. Like you said, ScottA, I don't think it's an ill-intentioned "policy". Maybe some EF staff could weigh in and explain? Or maybe I'm the only one who's curious? lol

OH! And THANK YOU! That was another reason I wanted to post this. I came across this very negative article about EF, but I was unable to locate the EF Porn store, even after the search...I wonder if they could make it easier to find from the home page? Or am I missing it on there?

Thanks for the link so that others can read this

I know it's not a positive thing but it's interesting information/opinion on EF and I was definitely curious to read it. I'm glad this was posted or I never would have found that crazy article in the first place. It doesn't hurt anyone for us to be able to read it. No has to rehash anything since you were nice enough to link for us. Thank you, TMS.

Most of that went over my head and personally I don't really care if others feel the need to be petty and jealous over what Eden has or does.
I'm more than happy here and that nasty blog isn't going to turn me off in the slightest!

Oh hell Victoria the company is more than competition for other sex toy stores. There's bound to be some bad feelings and rumor mongering. I noticed that all of the responders were former employees...we know why THEY say they are former employees but not what EF says. Add to that the fact that EF CAN'T explain why someone is no longer with the company except in the broadest terms and you have an unequal power vaccuum.
It's plain silly that EF would hurt their bloggers since more readership means more revenue.
People come, people go and the community keeps chugging on...

Not everyone on the site now has been here for years. I had never seen this article before. It isn't the first thread to be started about something that was discussed previously. I was glad to see it, and understand it was nothing but bullshit.

The article, to my reading, was an attempt at hyperbolic pseudo-technobabble and sour grapes.

Somebody either wanted to get paid in cash instead of points (which isn't how this works) or wanted to return a used butt plug or something and wasn't allowed to so wrote an article with words like "obfuscating" in it.

Shrug. It really doesn't effect me, but lexical had a right to post it. Most of us had never seen the sour grapes article before, either.

The so-called "unethical" practice is something that is not unique to EF, and if it's not playing by the Internet rules of 1997, well, it's not 1997 any more, and Internet businesses are businesses, not non-profit computer enthusiasts sharing a playground. I personally wouldn't handle my linkage with that particular script, but I'm not interested in climbing on any high horse and claiming my choice is the only ethical choice. It's just a business strategy, and it's no more "dishonest" than a store listing an item at a spectacular price for Black Friday and only stocking three of them. Besides, it's part of the same business model that has us all posting here, creating content for the site, and getting benefits in exchange. I'm not motivated to complain.

If you’re a partner or contributor (reviewer, affiliate, blogger), while you’re providing EdenFantasys with inbound links or writing articles for them and thereby propping them up higher in search results, EdenFantasys is not returning the favor to you (when they are supposed to be doing so). Moreover, they’re attaching your handle, pseudonym, or real name directly to all of their link farming (i.e., spamming) efforts. They look like they’re linking to you and they look like their content is syndicated fairly, but they’re actually playing dirty. They’re going the extra mile to ensure search engines like Google do not recognize the links in articles you write. They’re trying remarkably hard to make certain that all roads lead to EdenFantasys, but none lead outside of it; no matter what the “link,” search engines see it as stemming from and leading to EdenFantasys. The technically savvy executives of Web Merchants, Inc. are using you without giving you a fair return on your efforts. Moreover, EdenFantasys is doing this in a way that preys upon people’s lack of technical knowledge—potentially your own as well as your readership’s. Do you want to keep doing business with people like that?

Really dude? Do you know how much shit we get for FREE! How much love this community has to offer?! How much Eden really DOES for us?! WOW talk about bite the hand that feeds you. Boohoo, so search engines find Eden more. I'm GLAD! Because I find all kinds of links and blogs off of here that leads to other places.

Frankly, that guy can kiss Eden's ass because this is a wonderful community, and I may just be speaking for myself- but I'm not going anywhere. As it states on my public profile- I am PROUD to be EDEN'S BITCH! And I seriously mean that. I get so many perks and free stuff, I don't care what they do with the stuff I give them. Part of the deal is that once you submit information for them, it is theirs.

Seconded. Also, the thread you posted TMS, still confuses me lol. It's all a bunch of techie stuff. I haven't gotten that far in my CST classes yet... all I know is I could care less what Eden does because I love them

Plus that thread is locked.

First My favorite part.

See for yourself: First, log out of any and all EdenFantasys websites or, preferably, use a different browser, or even a proxy service such as the Tor network for greater anonymity. Due to EdenFantasys’s technology, you cannot trust that what you are seeing on your screen is what someone else will see on theirs. Next, temporarily disable JavaScript (read instructions for your browser) and then try clicking on the links in SexIs Magazine articles. If clicking the intended off-site “links” doesn’t work, you know that your article’s links are being hidden from Google and that your content is being used for shady practices. In contrast, with JavaScript still disabled, navigate to another website (such as this blog), try clicking on the links, and note that the links still work as intended.

So it seems to me I have to go to a hell of a lot of work in order to make the links NOT work. I would do this because....???

Second, I do recall there being a thread (I am aware this is new) devoted entirely to providing links to Eden Bloggers.

Third, I second Cherry in saying that I DO recall reading that whatever I submit to Eden in exchange for gift cards, toys, whatever... is no longer my property. So why would I be concerned about what they do with it again? Oh thats right, I don't. In fact I am appreciative of the fact that they value my opinion and honesty in reviews. I also appreciate the high standards held for reviewers. I am proud to be part of this community, and if I didn't feel that my work here was beneficial to me I would leave.

*** Blinks *** Still here eh? Well I guess that settles it. I LIKE it here!

This is old news. I was here when all this happened. People got banned, threads locked, etc. It all started when this one person was banned/let go for apparently no reason, then a lot of others boycotted and left. All evidence for the most part was erased. You'll only see it in the blogs.

I don't care though, less competition for the stuff here, in my eyes. Plus I don't have time for my blog, and just do reviews here, I don't have to worry about no linking mumbo-jumbo.

As far as I'm concerned, I wasn't a part of it, so why should I worry? And I won't go into details, the company wasn't too happy when all this happened, and I doubt they want it brought up again.

LOL Can't trust that we see different web pages huh? then how the hell do we all rate the same reviews, read the same blogs, and post in the same forums?! HAHAHA this is sooooo entertaining.

I read this before in an article titles "Eden Fantasys The Sex Shop You Can't Trust." I found it through google too when I was looking for something on EF. I didn't really care or think it was that bad. Maybe it's because I'm not computer savvy, but I didn't find it offensive. I enjoy EF and what it has to offer me.

I agree with what pretty much everyone is saying. I've had nothing but kindness from EF. Even when my review was late since I've been adjusting to working (and not to mention the holiday craziness of the schedule), I was able to explain what was going on without anyone being like I know most companies would and going:

"Rawwwrrrrr! Where's that review?! We don't care what is going on in your life, we want our review NAOOOOO!!!!"

And I honestly appreciate the caring and the understanding I was shown. Not to mention, this is just a great community in general.

You won't find me stomping off and never returning because of things that've happened in the past. I'm here to stay (as long as I can keep juggling work, Synthetik, EF, family, and WoW, lol)
