Notifications for soon-to-be discontinued items.

IT would be nice.

That sounds pretty difficult to do, since someone at EF would have to read the minds of manufacturers and suppliers, but it sure would be an awesome feature.

It would be nice, but I doubt it'll happen.
Although what would probably be a lot easier would be to put items they know they're discontinuing all in a special page sort of like the way sale items are grouped together.
It'd give people a heads up on if anything they want is getting the axe, but probably wouldn't be as hard on the system or staff.

It would be very helpful. It's so frustrating when a toy you want gets discontinued. Or even getting notified after it's discontinued would be a bit better than finding out on my own.

I really have no idea how things work inside Eden, whether they even know something's going to be discontinued before it's out of stock, or how much of a technical challenge this would be.

But if there ARE products which Eden knows won't be restocked once they're gone, it would be very useful to customers if they could know that. I like KyotoAngel's suggestion of a "closeouts" page. I've seen counters on other sites that say how many of each item are in stock; that would also be a good thing.

They do get some advanced notice on when something will be discontinued, so I'd love it if they did inform us about it

Yes, that would be great but I've noticed that before an item is officially discontinued, it will just appear as sold out for a long time. It wouldn't be any help if there's none in stock anyway.

I think it's awesome in theory. In practice, I could see this being a big problem. I mean, there is a reason companies have to do inventory. Sometimes things get mixed up, there are some that are defective, don't get scanned, get scanned twice, orders not being processed right away, the list goes on. If a company discontinues a product and the little red light says "Buy It Now or else it's gone forever", I can see the product being sold when there is nothing there. It just happens sometimes. Nothing is perfect. It could cause confusion, anger, and be just a big hassle.

If EF simply is discontinuing it because THEY aren't going to carry it anymore, I'd like a little heads up. Or at least a list of the discontinued products of the month, so I can look them up somewhere else.

I think this would be nice. I wouldn't expect it if it's the manufacturer that's discontinuing the item (though I think EF did a LOT of legwork to secure a large lot of Salsas even though they were going out -- mad kudos!) but Eden is planning to stop stocking an item and they want to get rid of existing stock or notify people of a limited number of stock? That would be nice.

This is a great idea (mainly in the case of discontinued. I am okay with rolling the dice on temporary out-of-stocks).
