Off Site Reviews

Are AWESOME! Can we make the text that links to the review larger? There are a lot of new contributors who are unaware of the link and are rating contributors poorly based in this misinformation.

I realize that the 1-2 noob contributors is not enough to get a contributor's rank to go down, but it's often disheartening to a contributor to see a low rank and not understand why, but not feel it's inappropriate to confront someone on the reason for the low vote.

I asked someone on a particular review that I did NOT write, because I suspected that was the reason for the vote and I wanted to confirm it.

So that's my suggestion today. Have a nice day y'all!

Honestly, no matter how big the link is, if the person isn't going to bother to read what the link says, they aren't going to click it. It's a matter of people not reading. Anyone who read anything would realize that the review was wayyyy too short to actually qualify as a review. x.x It's a good thought though, but I sincerely doubt it would actually help.

I wish there was a good way to make people read whta they're doing though. x.x

I'm sure there's a way to block voting until the link was followed from your IP, but I would hate to be the coder who had to figure that out!

I realize I'm relatively new, but I wonder if there should be a task or something that would pair a new contributor with a more seasoned contributor (based on rank and community participation). We would receive the name of a new contributor, then send them a message, extending our help to them, making sure someone is answering their questions. Kind of like mentoring, but we wouldn't be helping with reviews, just kind of being a personal tour guide, maybe. It might even be that they can't post on the forums or vote on reviews until they've gone through the site with a "guide."

Just an idea.

Yeah, I think something should be done to draw attention to the fact that a review is an off site review. I don't think it's always clear with the current page layout, especially on video reviews, or when there's a long a follow-up.

Here is an example of a review where the offsite link could be missed pretty easily.

It's been an ongoing issue since I've been here. People don't read. Most eventually figure it out, but the damage to a contributor's rating really is minimal. I wouldn't sweat this issue too much.

The link is there, right in the middle of the page. If someone isn't going to read carefully enough to spot it, odds are nothing you do to highlight it is going to help.
