I need your opinions

We have been discussing ideas for forum changes (as you may have noticed from the thread I posted last week).

I would like to hear you suggested about adding badges & and electronic gifts to the profiles on the forum. They can be fun, or they can represent accomplishments like hitting 100 reviews or participating in a club.

Have some fun brainstorming, I would like to hear all of your ideas!

Ok, so no one has posted yet I will share a few items that I noted to hopefully get the idea ball rolling

Club Badges: I think it would be cool if each club had a badge, and by subscribing to club alerts or maybe just for participating, you would have a badge for that club on your profile.

Earned Badges: These would be badges your profile would wear for completing certain tasks, such as Student / Mentor badge for the mentor program, Description Reviewer Badge, Proofreader Badge, Milestone badges for completing 100, 200, etc... reviews, COTM badge, Rumble winner badges... you get the idea.

These are all just ideas at this point. Mainly I want to see what all of you think would be cool to add, so please take a few minutes and share your thoughts.

...also... what do you think about electronic gifts? Being able to share a friendly gesture or sentiment by giving a little gift icon to a friend or community member. Ideas here?

I LOVE the idea of club badges. What, exactly, would "club alerts" be, though? Would it be by e-mail or EF message? I'd love to see the badges though. It'd be neat.

I just love the idea of badges in general. I'm a total gamer, and earning achievements/trophies is just fun.

I like the different badges for #'s of reviews, each one different colored.

Maybe total post badges too?

I'm not too keen on electronic gift giving type things. I understand some people get a kick out of it on FB (sending drinks and puppies and lobsters, etc). It's not my thing.

Would it be possible to put a notification on someone's profile for the last time they were logged on? That could be pretty handy.

Alerts will be another part of this 'Forum Update' project proposal. I would like to modify the alerts system, to include clubs and some other important areas.

I like the club badges thing a lot. Admittedly I'm a bit biased in that respect, but I still think it is a *really* good idea.

I have less of a strong opinion on the earned badges. I like the idea, but I'm not as gung-ho as I am about the club badges.

I guess I'm not sure about what you mean by the electronic gifts. It sounds to me a lot like the smilies at the bottom of the list above. What kind of icons are you talking about, exactly?

All in all, anything that can make the forum an even more fun place than it already is has my support.

Total Posts is something that I would like to have under the avatar / profile area hopefully without being a special badge.

As for gifts, I am not really a giver of the types of gifts you mentioned either, however I am not opposed to anything the community will enjoy ad have fun with. ALSO... I suspect that we might be able to come up with some ideas that would be more relevant to our community activities.

The main example that I have visualized is based on birthday club. It would be cool to give little presents along with our best wishes. It could be fun.

I like the idea of the Club Badges, as well as the Earned badges, like number of reviews. This can give someone an idea of what the person has been doing around the site, without having to search through their profile. It would be nice to be able to have an idea about how involved the person is just to take a look at their badges on the forum!

Overall, I love the idea of the badges

A gift giving app on Facebook for giving drinks to your friends is a wildly popular app (that even I use) so I think it's a great idea to do something similar here.

I love the idea of both types of badges. So many games are built around achievements and while this is obviously not a game, I think it's a great way to acknowledge member accomplishments.

I like all of the possible badges you listed. I think you covered all possibilities, but I'll think on it some more and if I think of anything new, I'll post it.

Great idea overall, Gary.

Good Point! Extending our smileys is on my list with exclamations points. Perhaps we can combine these two ideas. Hmmmm.

I guess I'm not exactly sure how these badges would appear on our profile page, but I think anything that helps show what someone is involved in is a good idea.

In regards to number of reviews, I think it would be nice to attach that to our little avatar picture so people can display it like a badge of honor.

And more smilies would be great. I'm still waiting for the post-coital smoking a cig smilie

I really like the idea of having little badges. Club badges can help promote the clubs, and little achievement badges can give contributors a nice little boost and a small "reward" for making it "to the next level."

Electronic gifts I feel less strongly about, but I don't really have any strong feelings one way or the other on them really. They can be fun, and I think it'd be a neat way to let contributors share things with other contributors in a "hey, I thought this was funny and saw you were kinda down, hope this helps cheer you up some" kinda way.

How - comes next! Yes that is a very legitimate concern, and I have a few ideas... but right now I am just collecting ideas.

I really like the idea of badges, not only for the feeling of accomplishment but to encourage more communication between community members. For example, if I go to someone's profile and see that they're part of Eden Kink, I'd feel more comfortable asking them a question about the club or about kink stuff in general. A badge can help say "Ask me!" without actually saying it. The same goes for people who have written a lot of reviews or who won a rumble or two. New people might feel drawn to them, not specifically as a mentor, but as someone who is knowledgeable and possibly a new friend.

I'm ambivalent about e-gifts. They can be cute (I've given the Facebook ones) but it's not something I'm super eager to see on Eden. I would hope that if we do implement e-gifts that they have no EdenPoint value. If I get a gift, it'd be cool to know someone did it because they wanted to, not because they wanted 5 EdenPoints. I think the gifts could be cool for birthdays or for other celebrations in people's lives. I'm wondering, though, would these gifts be like giant emoticons? Or could you only send them in private messages? >.>

Another point of view:

I would rather see badges for club managers instead of a border, like in the corner of their picture (which I hope the pictures will be a bit bigger). I think that borders should remain for the people who were hired by EF to perform a business-related function. I think that there are a LOT of borders in the forum right now. (Yes, I realize that some of the club managers would get borders anyway since many of us DO work for EF in some capacity)

Earned badges for COTM, Rumbles, etc... I think these would be much better utilized on the profile rather than in the forums. Same with 100 club, 200 club. I think that's really cool!

Gifts are an interesting idea, but I think it would be overused by people who like to spam other people. (Akin to the "following" wall post... they're trying to be friendly without making any real effort). In terms of gifts, I have a bit of a question, if someone has a public wishlist, can I send it to them? Can I gift it to them? If not, I'd like to see that be a possibility INSTEAD of virtual gifts.

I think it would be great if we had more emoticons, potentially even animated ones would be nice. That's all I can think of right now.

(I'm just going to reply to myself since I'm sure by the time I articulate the thought, others will have commented)

About the badges and the club managers. The club managers could have a distinct badge that appears in the forum and on-site. Like a medallion or something that has the initials for the club they manage. I think that people collecting badges for the clubs that they participate in is a great idea.

That's really all, and my luck, no one will have commented after me. SEE???!!!???!!

I thought the same thing. Gifts are fun but if it is just going to be something else for a farmer to grab hold of it may not be so grand. It will, in the long run, cause more headaches for you guys.. unless of course there are no points attached to it.

I like the idea of badges.

Electronic gift could be nice but I'd like to know more about how specifically they'd be implemented before I say yay or nay.

Personally, I don't care for a "last logged on" option. I'm not really crazy with people knowing exactly when I'm on. Also, I'm not positive, but I think the site never logs me off, so I'm not sure if it would work currently.

I'd like to know how many people read my reviews. Not necessarily WHO or when, but just how many times my review has been viewed.

(Mostly I'm just curious how many people read that don't vote)

I like the idea of badges. I love to see how active some of the members are. I don't like the idea of gifts, this will just add to the clique-ness.

I'm right with you there...

Oh, another "Gifting" idea would be if we can have a way to send a gift to someone, but not necessarily off of their wishlist.

Like, if I wanted to buy a self-fellating squirrel and send it to Carrie Anne... (not that the site hast self-fellating squirrels, but you get my drift) Or if I wanted to get the inflatable cow for Vacc in case he got tired of Ewegenia (is that her name?)

It could be an interesting way to get more gag/novelty items sold.

Oh, PRIVATE MESSAGES... FORMATTING. PLEASE!

When I send stuff to students or to new contributors, I like to send links to helpful spots on the forum. (even to grammar websites) I'd love to be able to format the messages with pictures or links.
