Best beginner butt plug?

Contributor: fghjkl fghjkl 11/28/2010

As a butt play beginner, I've been looking around for my first butt plug. There are a lot of options when it comes to smaller introduction plugs and even plug kits. I know that a lot of EF members are experienced in anal play and I would love to hear what you all have to say in regards to the best first purchase.

Are you looking for something that will stay in or something for light thrusting?

Something that will stay in. I want to get something that I can use during sex or just on my own.

Then I would say the Flirt. It is made from silicone, so there will be no worries about bad stuff sticking around. It might be a bit larger than you can take, depending on your actual experience, but it should be no problem if you can work up to two fingers now. The others, like the Li'l end, I think you will "out grow" pretty fast as your butt play progresses.

As with all things anal, the ability to relax is the biggest key. Learn to do that and you will be surprised how big of a toy you can get in there. Of course a good lube is crucial. You want something thick, like hair gel and don't be afraid to use it. When you think you have enough, add more. See if you can find a small syringe or something that will allow you to "shoot" the lube in there. That will help a bunch.

One more thing, if you are going to keep it in there for awhile, say over 30 minuets, remove it and apply more lube. I recently had a problem getting a plug to come out, it felt like the lube was not there and it was a bit painful to remove.

Note: The Tantus Flirt in your poll is the larger version. I recommend the small version for a beginner: link

I am also a newbie to anal play and found the Small Flirt to be a good plug though it does not stay in if you move around much.

I also have the FunFactory Bootie and the LELO Bob. Bob is, by far, the most comfortable and easiest for me to use. The Bootie is a bit harder for me to get in, but is comfortable once it is finally inserted. Both of these, the Bob and the Bootie, also stay in place extremely well.

So . . . I think the LELO Bob is the ultimate beginner butt plug. At least from the ones that I have experienced.

Flirt is fun, but it doesn't stay in. I would say get a silicone toy as a first one. It's soft (so no pokes) and safe. I would probably second Bob and Bootie.

Oh man, I'm definitely thinking about investing in a Bob now. I've heard nothing but good things.

Great thread! I've been wondering about the same thing. I almost picked up a Bob this weekend, but bad reviews talked me out of it. Guess I'll have to give it a try.

flirt looks the best to me, but i haven't tried any of them. when you get a little more used to it, try the pixie curve. it's my absolute favorite!!

The Flirt looks like a good size and shape for what you're looking for, but the anal finger is good to get yourself used to anal stimulation and ready to take the plug. I didn't vote for it only because it isn't actually a butt plug, in the typical definition of the word.

They sell a toy here called "key to your butt". For a real newbie, it is the BEST.

Honestly...none of the above. I LOVE the "Key to your butt" butt plug. Just perfectly long enough and slim. TWO girlfriends now into anal agree. Enjoy.

I'm a fan of the rectal dilator kit on amazon. Wish eden would sell it so I could write a review for it. The kit can be found cheap and comes with 5 plugs. (The largest one you'll probably never need)

My boyfriend and I actually have the Pleasure #2, and it worked just fine for me as a first plug. I originally wanted something smaller, but my boyfriend told me that something smaller would be silly and to just play around with the tip on the #2 at first and assured me that I would be moving on to bigger things in no time. And he was right. And I was, and still kind of am, a complete wimp about things going in my butt, so I am by no means very anally experienced. Just my opinion.

I am super new to anal play and both my partner and I are fond of Doc Johnson's Platinum Groove. The size gradually increases and it feels very nice left in during sex. Sometimes I'll wear this as a plug while working on papers or large projects. I highly suggest it.

I voted for the Slim before realizing it was something you'd want to stay in. In that case I would have voted for the Flirt.

I will note: do NOT get the royales butt plug junior- it's friggin' huge and I have no idea why it's labeled as junior. It was too big for /me/, and I've been at this a while.

Which trainer kit would you suggest over the other? These are the two that I've been looking at.

I don't care for the material but I think this kit is the better value. Plus you get a vibe so you can try some double penetration to see if you like it.

Don't mess with the kits. Play with fingers a bit and then get a toy that's sized right for you and made of a long-lasting, safe material such as silicone, glass or metal.

Are there any other products worth mentioning that I did not include? Are anal kits worth it or should I just buy seperate pieces of higher quality as my need for a larger plug hits me? Other opinions?

I would suggest something made of silicone as opposed to rubber or jelly. It is just more sanitary. Rubber and jelly cannot be sanitized and will harbor icky germs.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. That's why I'm not sure if it would be better to go with higher quality seperate pieces size wise, rather than a kit.
