Alright, this issue keeps coming up here at EF. We are of the mind (and know medically) that the anus and rectum are pretty clear if you don't need to have a bowel movement. Furthermore, an enema can stir things up, cause cramps and make one have an accident even hours later.

YET there are those who think they feel cleaner and insist they enjoy a good clean out before a serious session of anal play.

I know that certain porn stars do enemas and even take Imodium prior to anal movies.

SO...what are the real STATS here on EF. For those who do anal play, DO YOU or DON'T YOU do enemas prior to a serious anal workout session?

This is something I'm struggling over. My boyfriend and I are considering anal sex but I'm not sure if we should try an enema- which isn't necessarily healthy- or just clean things out a bit with saline water.

Other: I use an enema kit, because it's easier to manage than an anal douche, but I don't let enough water flow in to do more than rinse out my rectum. So it's not really an enema. And I don't do it every time - just when I feel like my rectum hasn't emptied completely. I wouldn't allow the bowel to actually be filled up with water unless I'd spoken to a doctor about it first, or at least done some research.

Remember, porn stars are expecting to be doing it for a long time, in various positions, with various partners, with cameras in close up shots - a far different situation than a couple doing it for pleasure. I wouldn't use their practices as a guideline.

I have never done anything like that, and have never had a problem. At the same time, we are both aware what may be present in that area, and don't have a particular problem with it if we were to encounter the occasional issue.

I just listen to my body, and haven't had a problem yet.

I definitely do before anal with a partner. Usually if it is just solo play with toys, I don't bother.

I also do something like this. What I call a "shallow" enema. No more than 8 fl. oz. of warm water. Nasal irrigation bottles work pretty well for this (just mark them so you don't also use the same bottle for your sinuses).

I do the same. Just with a little bit of warm water and I'm good to go. Usually though I just stick to light anal play.

Depends on what I'm doing and how my body is working that day. If you do one keep it as small as possible and use only water or isotonic/normal saline.

If I feel I am "not ready" I use a disposable enema but dump the solution and just use warm water. Frequent enemas can seriously mess your GI tract!

Plain warm water works well enough for anal sex.

No enemas for us before anal play, haven't found it necessary as all our toys are non-porous and 100% body safe.

I always clean myself out very well before any kind of anal. I use a Bad dragon mini dildo with a syringe, and a tube that goes from that into the dildo i just use regular warm water and do that twice, then everything is nice and clean.

I don't do anal but I had to use an enema when they checked to see why I have bad acid reflux. That was SO painful. I NEVER want to use an enema again.
