Are you speaking of giving or receiving? I will assume receiving. There are a few things I do: (1) "Good" bowel movement. (2) Wash anal area with soap and warm water, in the shower or bathtub. I like bath. (3) Lube.

That is basically it. Then I just start small, butt plug or some other intially small safe toy, and work up to larger sizes as I get more relaxed.

Supplemental to littlethree's routine, I use well lubed butt plugs.

If I haven't had a "good" bowel movement, sometimes the butt plug will stimulate one and the lube seems to minimize the debris left behind. Then I wear a well-lubed butt plug until I feel the need for re-lubing, then repeat until the plug shows no debris, usually no more than two go-rounds. Then shower, beginning with some thrusting with a well lubed Tantus Curve as one last "cleaning" probe. Then wash well.

Most often our pegging dildos show no debris. Never anything that spoils the moment, so long as we have hand towels handy for a quick wipedown before relubing and more pegging.

Don't be afraid to "test things out" with a finger or a toy (a non-porous toy material such as silicone, glass or steel is best for this). If you find you're not clean enough you can fix it.
