Good, honest question. It doesn't "taste or smell", both of which would have been a "stopper" for me, I believe. We have been doing analingus (anal kissing, licking and tonguing) since forever. On the one hand, you are completely correct about exposure to potential high risk anything. We happen (as do our friends) to be in a long (very, very long) monogamous relationship with a spouse who is completely physically healthy. Next comes a certain amount of really contentious debate. The fact is, the alimentary tract, mouth to anus, is a continuous tube. Yes, there are multiple areas and certain "biological isolate populations" of flora and fauna, but there are so many people who seem to have done this, without ill effect, I had to really wonder, from a real scientific standpoint, what the "risk" was or is. Since we have engaged in anal "kissing and licking" for literally decades, again, with zero ill effect, have we really increased the risk greatly in going a bit further? I don't honestly know. Great question. I suspect a lot of people here, who never would say they do "ATM", do still "kiss, lick or contact the anus" during oral play. From a safety standpoint, I would agree, it is probably an activity best avoided. However, when I read about some other "activities" people here speak of doing, I think it is far safer then a lot of them...physically and neurologically.
