I do this regularly. I really enjoy it. There is a downside though, if you get really close and you are distracted by something (children in my case), you are like ten times as frustrated when you backtrack down your rise and plateau.

Sometimes it depends on the stimulation involved. I can have non-ejaculatory orgasms and hence multiple orgasms pretty easily so In usually just use a chain of non-ejaculatory orgasm to build to a big ejaculatory orgasm. However, if i the type of stimulation were an ejaculatory orgasm is inevitability the I might use edging to build to a powerful orgasm.

I will hold back sometimes during masturbation, coming to my plateau, then backing off not only makes my orgasm stronger but sometimes enables me to ejaculate as well.

I've heard of people doing this, but when I tried it just made my orgasms that much weaker :[ boooo booooo I'll just let the boys handle it from now on. They can keep their "edging" lol

I've found that happens sometimes, too. It's not a perfect science.
