Dressing room exhibitionist or unaware of her surroundings? Your opinion please.

Contributor: Martiniman Martiniman
I was with my wife at the mall tonight, and was waiting for her outside of the dressing room area in one particular store While she tried on clothes. The dressing rooms do not have doors, but large curtains that pull closed and the dressing rooms face away from the open store. However, the walls opposite the dressing rooms turned at several angles and were covered completely with floor to ceiling mirrors. As I sat in a chair facing the mirrors, a young woman exited the nearest dressing room, she checked herself in the mirror and talked to the sales lady about the dress she was trying on, then returned to her dressing room, failing to fully close the curtain. She proceeded to remove the dress where I then got a mirror view of her fully nude before she re-dressed and exited the dressing room.
When my wife exited her dressing room I told her about what had happened, and she laughed, saying the woman had done it on purpose knowing I was sitting there and could see her. I personally am not sure since she never made eye contact with me, nor did she do anything to make me suspect it was done on purpose.
So for fun, I'm asking your opinion...and a few other questions.

Who knows? It could have been on purpose, it could have been a total accident. Those curtains can be tricky sometimes. The only way you would know is if she indicated to you one way or the other, but she didn't so...

Ummm... First of all, I would find something incredibly wrong if someone chose to continue looking at me while I was not aware of them seeing me nude. I would totally expect someone to look away and respect me.

Then again, this story just changed my mind about ever using a dressing room in Hollister or with mirrors like that again. I won't even be taking the chance. It'd be highly unsettling for me to learn that someone sat there and watched me. I'd probably feel a little defiled. At the least disrespected.

I don't even know if it's legal to do that, and no, I really truly would not assume she wanted you to see her. I'd probably think that she 1. didn't know that her curtain wasn't fully closed, or that there were mirrors allowing a view or 2. she didn't expect to have to worry about anyone but other women being in the area to peek on her. That is just me and how I'd feel in the situation.

Pretty much this.

I've been in a similar situation, and as soon as I realized that there was a diagonally facing mirror that showed my reflection outside of the dressing room (while it was another woman who saw me) I will still pretty unsettled by it, because it was definitely not intentional. While I AM bisexual and therefore have been seen by other women, even women who were turned on by it, that was in the bedroom and NOT by a stranger, so to be seen by a stranger I was very embarassed and even came out making a comment about the mirrors. She did, however, turn away and when I came out was facing the other way on the bench (it was in line, there was only 1 room for women, 1 for men) and while I have no idea if she "liked" seeing me or not, it wasn't fun. I never used the dressing room in that store again because of it, because the stupid curtain closed by a hook, and anyone sitting on the bench would be able to see, similar to the way most Hot Topic dressing rooms close, but a smaller room and with a mirror in a terrible place.

Chances are, she didn't know, and if she did, she probably would've done one of those little head turns or something to see if you were watching. I'm sure she knew given the situation that you were there with someone, and I'd imagine most women wouldn't do that knowing you were there with another woman.

I feel like she didn't know, or she would have made some form of eye contact with you.

There's no way of knowing whether she did it on purpose or not. I've purposely flashed someone while making no indications that I've done it on purpose 3:]

Oh, come on, you're acting like he assaulted her. He may have looked away, it may have happened so quickly and been so shocking that there wasn't really enough time to look away, or maybe he was being a human being and looked at her because she was standing in plain view, naked. There's no need to be all judgmental about details to the story that you don't even have, and act like he's some pervert criminal for catching a glimpse of someone nude. And no, it's not illegal to accidentally see someone naked.

I'd say it was an accident but it's not the end of the world like people are making it seem, meh.

Yeah, I don't get the whole "omg, I'll never change in those places again!" Just pay attention to your surroundings, and you'll be fine. You'll never suffer the "horror" of someone seeing you naked for a split second by accident.

I can't know what she was thinking. However when I'm in a situation like that it can upset me and just make me think "to hell with it". I could see myself doing something like that without caring whether anyone saw me or not.

Wow! It was probably on purpose. It's totally possible to know someone's in a room and where they are without looking them in the eye. And who tries on clothes casually with nothing else on?

My feeling is that it was probably unintentional, but I'm guessing she wouldn't mind if she found out. Seriously, people who don't want to be seen naked make sure the curtain is closed, and no one I know gets completely naked in a store's changing room. I don't know about you, but I leave my underwear and bra on!

As for everything else, I think several people here are overreacting. The man never said he sat there staring at her, he simply said he managed to see and was surprised by it.

These days nothing surprises me. Being on the cam sites I hear all kinds of things. Some people are into the whole getting dressed while someone watch. Yea it could have been a accident. But don't judge people on what happens in that situation. It was not his fault that she did not close it.
