I have done both you can be more sensitive to touch in the dark, but it's not as romantic. but honestly it depends on weather or not they are on or off when we start.

Since I'm mostly the one doing the touching - I prefer some light. The visual stimulation I get from gazing at her candle lit curves - makes all the difference for me.

At night, we usually have the closet light on because my husband can't see in the dark with his contacts. I can see outlines just fine, but he's not able to.

We have really ugly fluorescent lighting, so I prefer it off. Although we will usually use a small lamp or a candle for some light.

We never intentionally turn off the light (small table lamp) to have sex but during the night we don't turn it back on either for sex.

if it is late at night, with the kids in bed, we leave the lights off. But I dont mind doing it with the lights one. Just dont want the kids to see anything if they wake up and walk into our room.
