Go Blind?

How many were told that if you masturbated you would go blind? Silly things parents say!

No but they said not to put fingers in my ass because I would bleed. Would have had my first orgasm way sooner if I didn't have to wait till I figured out that one was b***t.

My parents didn't tell me that, but the nuns who taught my religion classes did - they mostly directed it at the boys in the class. There was a lot of shaming going on in Catholic school.

I was never told this but I did hear it a lot from tv, books, movies, and friends. Of course, I never believed it. It sounds way too dumb to be believable.

I wasn't told that by my parents, but my friends in my old high school. My parents just asked 'are you masturbating yet?'. And that was not something I'd answer honestly!

I was told "self abuse" was a sin. But, not that I'd go blind. Just that I'd go to hell. WTF?

"Self abuse"? That's messed up, even without the part about going to hell.

Wasn't told by family, Grandfather use to accuse me of waxing my carrot. Never knew wtf he was talking about till many years later.

I was never told that.
My mom just told me to never ever touch my clit.
I did it anyhow.

You'd explode if you did!

I never heard anything about masturbation from my parents. The hairy palms and blindness were always presented to me as myths instead of truths.

My parents never really talked to me about masturbation much, but it was never presented as a bad thing. I once got a minor yeast infection when I was twelve or thirteen, and my mother said, "How should I put this delicately... have you been masturbating?" Real delicate, mom. But she was just telling me to make sure my hands were clean when I masturbated and to cool it until the infection went away, not saying that masturbation caused the problem.

I read about the blindness myth in a Dr. Ruth book, and the author immediately debunked it as a load of crap. Along with myths about masturbation killing brain cells or making girls pregnant. Seriously, who thinks up this stuff???

I didn't hear about it except in pop culture. My parents gave me a book on puberty when I was eight but it didn't talk about masturbation at all. Mostly just periods and boobs and pubic hair. XD

Nope, my parents never told me that. But then, my mother had to explain to us about sex when I was four after I walked in on my parents going at it. Or maybe it's because neither of my parents are Christian No religious reason to be against it...

Seems like I heard the "stop that or you will go blind" thing a time or two also. So far, all I need is reading glasses, so I guess I'll keep it up for a while!

my mom was hella cool and told me anything i wanted to know about sex, she wasnt a stuck up religious prude that shamed sex like so many people do.

Ciao. Ciao.
My parents were definitely pretty awkward in how they addressed sexuality issues, but they certainly didn't tell me any false information (like the going blind myth). Their main way of addressing masturbation was giving me a book about puberty that was pretty decent and basically said masturbation was ok and very normal. So that was good.

It has always been a funny little saying for me. An obvious joke from my parents. I won't lie, back in CS I got a particularly aggressive ESL pervert on the phone and convinced him he'd go blind.

My parents always told me if I masturbated (or smelled drying paint, or stayed up too late, etc) that my babies would be born naked...
Until 5-ish I kinda believed that some babies were born wearing overalls. O.O

I've seen plenty of websites say that. I started to worry if that really was the case when I first had to get glasses, but my eyes never got worse, and I'm still messing with myself.

I didn't hear that until I was much older. It's a terribly amusing tale, though!
