What, if any, is your level of familiarity with the transgendered community?

i'm transsexual. i don't consider myself a part of "the transgendered community", and i'm not even really sure what people mean when they use that term. it seems fairly condescending and kind of weird.

My ex-boyfriend is transgender (FtM). I helped him through a lot of changes. He got his name legally changed right before we broke up, which was about a year and a half ago, and he sent me an email the other day showing me a picture of himself. He started T and looks a LOT different, and he has a boyfriend. Although we didn't work out, I still wish him the best with his transition and with his relationship.

If you're looking to hook up with them, don't. Trans people generally dont like being fetishised.
If you're looking for a support group, that's specific to certain areas.

That's not completely true. In a perfect world where everyone every accepts transsexuals, it'd still be hard. There's still dysphoria, painful and costly medical care, having to be on medication the rest of your life... That stuff is really difficult, regardless of how society views us.

I'm trans* and know a lot of trans* people.

I'm always surprised when some of my trans* friends say they know no one else who's trans* besides me, because I feel like I know that many.

I'm often asked, "Do you purposely only choose trans* people as close friends?" I'm like, "No" but after I've been asked that so much, now I question why I choose who I do to be close to me.

Idk, I guess it just happens to turn out that way. A lot of times I don't connect with cis people because trans* issues interest me that much, so they don't interest me much, if they can't keep up. If they're cis and know about trans* stuff though they always impress me

I'm trans*, short for transgender, not transgendered (which a lot of trans* people don't like), and I have several trans* friends on the internet and in real life.

it's apparent that you aren't very familiar. Transgendered is not a word. You wouldn't say maled or femaled.
