Applying for a Job at a Sex Toy Store--Advice, Anyone?

Miss Cinnamon Miss Cinnamon
So I'm thinking of applying for a part-time at the local sex toy store. They focus on sexual health and staying educated, and generally a good place to hang out. There isn't a hiring sign out front, but should I ask anyway? Should I bring a resume just in case?

For those of you who have worked or who are working in sex toy retail, what sorts of things should I be aware of when applying?

Thanks :]

I know nothing of the workings of a sex toy store but can tell you as a small business owner, coming in with your resume even when there is no posting for a job is a good idea. The fact that you have experience and knowledge of product is a big plus and should be discussed. I would ask to speak with the manager and/or owner and tell of your interest and experience. I have no idea what you are like face to face but given what I've seen here I think you would be an asset. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Good service in a toy store is more about an ability to read people than about product knowledge, although management will certainly appreciate product knowledge. With the customers, some will want you to leave them alone (and not so much as look directly at them!) and some will want help but be too nervous to ask for it. (The ones who aren't embarrassed are low hassle because if they have a Q, they'll come get you. Those people will also respect product knowledge.) Just try to spot who might need help and be understanding that for many people, a toy store is a scary environment! (And depending on the store and the neighborhood, it might be advisable to find out what is considered unacceptable customer behavior and if it occurs, how management would like you to handle it! And whether 'cleaning up' is part of your job!)
