Basic vs Advanced Reviewrs

Fun Lover Fun Lover
I have often wondered out of the 55 pages of reviewers what percent are basic and how many are advanced. How many people join for the free toys and how many join just for all the interaction. What draws people to this web site? Would people stay if their weren't free toys?

I can't tell you the stats but I can say, yes, there is a huge appeal to free toys. Of course, I'm also competitive so I have done most of my reviews on stuff I did -not- get for free. I like to see my rank rise and try to be the best. I also really enjoy the community here and having a positive environment to really talk about such an important issue.

I feel the same way. Hugely competitive but it's also fun writing and reviews allow me to get out of a rut and at least begin writing.

I definitely enjoy the community here too

Ditto. A couple of free toys is a bonus, especially if you aren't at least 75% sure you'll enjoy something--I wasn't big into anal until I ordered free anal beads from EF, for example--but the real attraction, for me, is the reviewing capabilities and the wealth of information. I fucking LOVE writing reviews; I also write reviews of Bollywood movies, and I can't get enough of it!

When I first joined, it was for free toys. There didn't used to be advanced and basic reviewers, and you couldn't write reviews on bought toys. But now I actually like to buy toys to review, though I haven't written a review in a while. I need to get on that.

I joined for the community, as I think it is awesome. So much knowledge and advice, and lots of fun too. I would do the reviews and be involved in the community even if there were no free toys, but I really love that we do get free toys.

I use reviews to motivate myself to write, as well. Testing the sex toys ain't bad, either!

I like getting the free toys, but I also like the writing. Writing sex toy reviews is much different than doing movie reviews!

Not necessarily. When I review a Bollywood movie, I give a brief summary, the main "details" (AKA, a cast list), rate each of its major parts, then rate the movie as a whole. Not too different from how I write a sex toy review!

I joined the community before becoming a reviewer and have only received two free toys but really appreciate them!

It is for me. When I write a toy review, it has a lot more to do with personal experience. When I do movie reviews, it is a lot more description of what's happening (positions, language, etc).

That sounds fun reviewing Bollywood movies !

When I write a toy review, I try to do facts AND experience. The cold hard facts--material, power, noise, smell, general specs--they go in the body of the review, because they are universal. I use the "experience" section to talk about what I, personally, did with the vibrator, since that's something reviewers would probably like to know, but it isn't universal information.

I loooooove Bollywood! ::points to icon::

You know, there is probably some one at Eden Fantasys that could answer this question, but since I do keep track of some site statistics on a personal basis, I can give you some information, but it won't really answer your question directly.
There are over 1,100 reviewers currently. Only about half of them have submitted a review in the last four months.
291 of the 1,100 have only one review. Most of these 291 were added this year, so probably most of these are basic.
325 of the 1,100 have two reviews. 296 of these 325 were added this year, but some of these will probably be basic and some will probably be advanced. Also, there are probably some folks with more than two reviews that are still basic.
So, my guess is that approximately 40% of the 1,100 are probably still considered basic reviewers and the rest are considered advanced.
I'm not sure how many are coming for the free toys and how many are here for the interaction.
The things that draw me to the site:
The first thing that drew me to the site was the amount of information that was available here. I found out about the free toys and jumped on that. The interaction has been an increasing draw for me since I started. I love the selection and the many ways I have to find exactly what I am looking for. The prices are very competitive as well.
Would I stay if there weren't free toys? I am invested enough now that I probably would continue to poke in and see what was going on, but it might be on a less frequent basis.

Thanks Jimbo that's the kind of information I was wondering about, good job on the statistics, keep up the good work. I was just upgraded to advanced yesterday. I come to this site for many of the same reasons. The benefits of being an advanced review now, will just be icing on the cake. Thanks for the information.

Hmm that's a good question. I dunno but i joined because of the community really. The forums and reviews that you can post in are awesome.

This was always my favorite site for browsing for toys before I joined the reviewer program. I thought the wealth of information, design of the site, and ease of searching made it a really useful palce to visit. The chance to review and participate in the community was really what drew me in. Though free toys is certainly a big plus.

I joined the site because a blogger friend of mine did a review on her blog of a $70 dildo and I was like "WTF? They make $70 dildos? And people BUY THEM?" Then I came here and looked around, and realized that this wasn't like the other shady cold and clinical websites that I've ordered toys from. It seemed really interactive and I liked the community aspect. Then I saw the free toys program and I was all for it. I did join for the free toys, but I think if this were just any website I might not have. I've learned so much in the past month or so that I've been here about myself and my husband, and we went from owning two or three mediocre vibrators to now owning a box full of pleasure devices. I find myself wanting to spend time on this site even when I'm not here to buy...and I do occasionally buy

LOL. Yep. I was first approached by Eden because of my blog. My first toy was a rabbit - and I was "OMG! It's purple. It's huge, and it has a rabbit." About the fifth thing that was randomly sent to be was the Liv by Lelo. A vibrator over a hundred dollars. I loved it. Since then I've fallen for some very expensive glass toy- dildos that cost more than $70, and the Pure Wand. I really want the Eleven, but I don't think I'll ever have it. I buy books, oil, cock rings.

But when I'm on the computer, which is most of the time- I have a window open to Eden. The forum or just flipping around.

I came here after a friend online told me about it and the review process. Of course the free toys was a nice bonus, but I loved all the information. I live in a sheltered state and didn't know very much at all about toys. I'm still learning too!

When I joined, the whole sex toy thing was new to me. I had no idea how to write a review or what to include but I was interested in learning. Boy, have I learned a lot. I'm sure there is tenfold more information out there but I am tickled pink with the things I have learned. The free toys are great and allow me to write more and experience new things. I try to order on a regular basis too so I can write more reviews. I don't have much time to spend on the forums but I do like reading them when I get a chance.

The first thing that drew me to eden was the community and the information. Not everyone wants to be talkative and open about sex. It's nice to have a community where what's considered taboo in one place, is normal practice in another. When I learned about the contributor program, I was excited- now I can tell people about my experiences. When I saw that there was a possibility to upgrade to the advanced level, I decided it couldn't get better.

Same thing for me. I was looking information and found these forums. I then proceeded to the site, where the products seemed great. After buying some, I joined the site and starting posting my own reviews and learned about the advancement.

I just signed up today, and I have to admit I probably wouldn't have joined if not for the premise of free toys. First of all, who doesn't like free things? I, for one, am not one of those rare few. I LOVE free stuff. Especially free stuff that allows me to explore aspects of my relationship and sexuality. What greater gift could you ask for? I can think of none better. A gift that keeps on giving, and giving, and giving... Well, you get the picture.

That said, I have been using this website as a reference for quite some time. I was a little intimidated with the idea of ordering sex toys online, so every time my lover & I took a little adventure into our local adult store, I'd rush home to cross reference material safety and search for product reviews. Unfortunately, the majority of toys sold in my insignificant town are of questionable composition and functionality. I've owned all of (1) dildo, and (1) harness. Though I am ecstatic to say that is all about to change, as today I finally mustered up the confidence to order my very first toy from Eden Fantasys! I'm expecting great things from the reviews I've seen, and I can't wait to try it out! After months of disappointment, four days still seems a painfully long amount of time to wait.

Even if I can't qualify for advanced reviewer status, I think I'll still remain here, however. It seems like a great community regardless, and has already proven to be an invaluable resource.

I found EF a couple years back when I started looking at sex toys. The hubby bought a few and I've used this site for research. Personal and in my books (I write erotica, shh, which I think is easier than reviews) any way a writer friend of mine said she did toy reviews over here. So when I started doing them on my own I thought this would be a good place to get some pointers. I'm not even sure if I'm going to sign up for the Advanced status yet, but I'm having fun talking with people and reading reviews. It's nice to find a forum that's not all stuck up. Every ones been wonderful and friendly.

I have to be honest I'm a little dense at times. I didn't know there were free toys, I haven't gotten any yet (maybe I should petition for Advanced Reviewer Status) I just like to communicate with people and write.

I put a few comments on some of the products and saw the actual reviews, and as I have written a lot and reviewed other types of products, like books and movies, I thought "Why not?"

I'm having a great time here.

Just thinking about it for a few seconds, I think the only REAL difference is the getting of the free products.

Both can write reviews on products they've used that are on the site. Both can be active on the forums.

With only one cup of coffee and few minutes of thought, that's what I've come up with.

I like interacting with everyone on the site and the free stuff doesn't hurt either. But I feel that since I'm getting the stuff for free I make a harder effort to ensure that my review is detailed and has many pictures and links from Eden Fantasys.

I really enjoy the interaction and I know I would still be active even without the free reviews

I Had a friend constantly posting links on her Facebook page, so after viewing a few of the products she posted I started just browsing.

I originally bought everything I wanted from anther online site. The prices are good and the shipping and handling is a lot cheaper for Canadian customers, as it is a Canadian site. After looking around on this site, I realized that the prices are comparable and there is a much greater community aspect which is really nice. I like that people can comment and ask questions about reviews and receive more information on aspects of a toy which may not have been mentioned. I also like the high standards for the reviews; it makes them much more useful than some reviews I have read on other sites. For instance I once read a review which was more like literary pornography than an actual review of the toy.

Once I saw my friend post that she was reviewing free toys I was sold. I signed up as a reviewer and affiliate, wrote 3 reviews, applied for a mentor wrote 2 more, and am about to receive my first free toy. I am more than happy to write reviews on toys that I have used without receiving for free, it gives me a chance to break down all the attractions and deterrents of toys I have used so that other people can make a more informed decision when purchasing a toy. I'm sure we can all agree that having to gamble on a toy when we have no idea whether it will be worth the 10, 20, 50 to 100 plus dollars we might spend on it.

When I accepted my first assignment I also purchased another toy, which I will also gladly review for the site. I think it is important to make it worth while for the owners and operators of the website to continue to offer a system this. Not only does it draw more customers to the site, but it also motivates the reviewers to do a good job and be honest in their assessment which is beneficial for everybody.

I haven't been on here that long but I've already forgotten how I got here. I cannot lie, the idea of getting free toys really appealed to me. I do also buy things to review, both at regular price and buy out.

I do like the community and the honest reviews so I stay. A lot of other sites the reviews just seem so impersonal and you wonder who wrote them, if they have any. These reviews are very thorough and I get a pretty good idea of what I'm buying before I buy it and I really like that.

If there weren't the reviews on the more expensive stuff out there I probably would have never introduced myself to the more expensive toys.

I also really like how much EF explains material safety, a lot of other sites do not do what they do. They're far less open and so many people are unaware. I had heard mutterings of things being less safe but I never understood why until I came here.
