Costumes too "slutty"?

Contributor: Ash1141 Ash1141
Do you think young girls costumes are too slutty these days? I'm talking the ones you see in catalogs to order or even at the store, not homemade ones. Also for girls 10 and under. Yes, many tween/teen/adult women costumes are and have been slutty for years but now they started bringing out CHILDREN costumes that look the same. My daughter is 9 (soon to be 10) and we have a heck of a time finding her an appropriate costume to wear.

I definitely agree. My solution was to wear tights or leggings under a costume so that I could be covered. It definitely helped. Sometimes I just don't think people who market these costumes really think about what they're promoting for women...they're using us as objects for men to ogle at

My biggest complaint is dude, Halloween is in October, almost November! It's gonna be 45 decrees out there! I always ended up wearing tights under my outfits, too, because of the temperature!

I agree so much. It doesn't bother me as much when people from like 16 and up wear sexy costumes, but all you ever see for young girls are costumes that are way too slutty.

Try buying shorts for a little girl. They're all so freaking small. No one wants to see a little kid with her butt falling out.

I completely agree with everyone. Trying to find my 3 year old daughter a cute costume that wasn't revealing was difficult (she refused to be an animal-those had full body suits) so I ended up making a long-ish tutu and wings with a 3/4 length sleeve for her to wear. Hot pink tights under the tutu too! =)

I think it's so sad society is making children-little girls especially-grow up too fast.

first of all, I think I'm going to pitch in by stating that your term of "slutty" is incredibly... well, slut shaming. And there's no reason to bring up slut shaming on a sex positive website.

A better term would be provocative. I think kids' costumes have gotten a little racier, but if you don't like them, don't buy them for your kids. very simple solution

I agree they are really slutty. You hardly see any regular costumes anymore for young girls or tweens. Its all minidresses and barely covered clothes. It makes me want to throw up a little. Then when a little girl asks for a normal costume there isnt one to buy her. I see this a few times a day at work. A lot of little girls want normal costumes, and companies just dont care anymore.

My sister sent me a pic of my 3year old niece it was ridiculous. She was wearing something that should be in the bedroom. It was this tiny little tutu skirt with a thigh one piece top. Really ridiculous. I am glad I have two boys for now and do not have to worry about the costume I get them being too sexy.

Women will be and have been ogled by men for centuries, regardless of their clothing. Sex sells. It always has and it always will.
